Vietnam U23 defender: Cambodia U23 controlled the ball very confidently

Speaking before the match, U23 Vietnam defender Vo Anh Quan assessed that U23 Cambodia was better than U23 Laos and controlled the ball very confidently.

On the evening of July 21, the Vietnam U23 team took to the training field to prepare for the match against Cambodia U23 in the final round of Group B of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, taking place at 8:00 p.m. tomorrow (July 22) in Indonesia.

The 3-0 victory over U23 Laos in the opening match meant that the U23 Vietnam team only needed a draw with U23 Cambodia to secure a ticket to the semi-finals as group leader. Before that, U23 Cambodia only drew 1-1 with U23 Laos.

In an interview with the media before the training session, right-back Vo Anh Quan shared: "I did not play well in the match against U23 Laos and I am quite sad with myself. But I will consider this as motivation to play better in the next match, if given the opportunity."

Anh Quan had to leave the field after the first half because he did not play well. Coach Kim Sang Sik brought Pham Minh Phuc in to replace him.

"I lost the ball a lot in the early stages of the match against U23 Laos, so I lost my confidence and was not at my usual level. Coach Kim also encouraged me to try to concentrate to avoid similar situations," he added.

Speaking more about the playing style of the Vietnam U23 team, Anh Quan shared: "In every training session, the teacher lets us practice passing the ball inside for the striker to finish. We haven't done well, so the teacher often encourages us. After that, we did better."

Evaluating U23 Cambodia, Anh Quan said: "The coach showed us the video, carefully analyzed each position to understand and mark the opponent effectively.

After the match against Laos, I think U23 Cambodia is slightly better than U23 Laos. They control the ball very confidently. Therefore, we need to focus to get good results."

Anh Quan also said that he and his teammates have not been informed about the lineup for the match against U23 Cambodia. Because before the match, coach Kim Sang Sik announced the starting lineup.
