On the afternoon of November 20, Vu Ha Minh Duc lost to Thantub Suksumrarn (Thailand, ranked 976 ATP, 477 ITF). Vietnam's number 1 tennis player lost in two quick sets with scores of 0-6 and 4-6.
Thantub Suksumrarn is rated higher thanks to his experience and position on the world rankings. While Minh Duc is ranked 2,079 on the ITF rankings.
The Thai player quickly showed his ability and the difference in distance. Because Thantub is no longer participating in the 33rd SEA Games, Vu Ha Minh Duc did not have the opportunity to "pay back his debt" at M15 Kuala Lumpur.
M15 Kuala Lumpur is part of the ITF World Tennis Tour and is divided into two stages. In stage 2, Minh Duc entered directly thanks to a wild card. He defeated another Thai player, James Van Herzeele, in the first round, with a score of 2-1 (6-4, 3-6, 6-2), on November 18.
In the previous stage 1, Vu Ha Minh Duc also stopped in round 2. He lost to Polish player Karol Filar (2-6, 5-7). In round 1, he beat Japan's Yoshimura 3-6, 7-6, 6-1.
To enter the final round of phase 1, Vu Ha Minh Duc had to play from the qualifying round, not a special round like phase 2. He won 3 matches in the outer round to move on to the inner round.
Minh Duc won 3 consecutive matches against Yile Li (China) 2-0, Mattias Southcombe (UK) 2-0 and Candra Kurniawan (Indonesia) with the same score of 2-0.
Unable to cause a surprise in Malaysia, Vu Ha Minh Duc will return and prepare for the 33rd SEA Games. He is one of 5 members of the Vietnamese men's tennis team going to Thailand.
Domestically, Vu Ha Minh Duc is the number 1 tennis player in Vietnam on the October 2025 rankings. He has 930 points, Nguyen Minh Phuong is ranked 2nd with 370 points.
