Lam Dong proposes that hydropower plants coordinate to cut floods and evacuate people in downstream areas.

Lam Dong Department of Agriculture and Environment requested hydropower plants on the Dong Nai river system to coordinate operations to cut flood peaks and reduce flooding downstream.

On November 20, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province said that in the face of widespread heavy rain, especially in the upstream areas of Don Duong (Da Nhim) and Dai Ninh hydropower reservoirs, the department has issued an urgent document, requesting hydropower plants on the Dong Nai river system to coordinate in supporting flood reduction operations, contributing to protecting the safety of downstream areas.

According to the report, at 11:00 p.m. on November 19, the water level of Da Nhim Lake exceeded the normal rise threshold (1,042 m), reaching an elevation of 1,043.088 m, the water flow into the lake reached from 2,111 m³/s to 2,580 m³/s, while the flow through the spillway was 1,400 m³/s.

By midnight of the same day, the lake water level reached 1,043.2m, reaching the reinforced level, due to continued strong rainfall upstream.

Faced with this complicated situation, Da Nhim - Ham Thuan - Da Mi Hydropower Joint Stock Company has announced an increase in flood discharge through the spillway of Don Duong reservoir corresponding to the amount of water flowing into the reservoir.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment requested the hydropower companies Dai Ninh, Trung Nam, Dong Nai , Dong Nai 5 - TKV to coordinate flexible operations, taking advantage of the reservoir capacity above the normal water level to cut flood peaks, supporting flood reduction for the downstream of Dong Nai River.

At the same time, the Department also requested local authorities along the river including Ninh Gia, Tan Hoi, Duc Trong, Bao Lam, Cat Tien, Da Teh, D'Ran, Ka Do, Quang Lap and Don Duong to urgently evacuate people in low-lying areas to safety and proactively respond to situations of especially heavy rain and floods.
