Denmark has had a vision and growth towards green transformation and sustainable development for more than 50 years, so it has a lot of valuable and diverse experiences and lessons in this field.
This Nordic country is currently one of the world's leaders in green transformation, with breakthrough technologies and thinking that help economic growth while still using resources economically and efficiently, minimizing environmental impact.
During the period 1990-2021, Denmark's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 62%, while CO2 emissions decreased by 43%, water consumption decreased by 39%, and total energy consumption decreased by 11%. Denmark emits only 0.1% of global greenhouse gases.
Milestones of substantive and concrete cooperation
Vietnam and Denmark have a long tradition of cooperation in the field of green growth and sustainable development and have achieved many outstanding results. In 2011, the two countries established a strategic partnership in the fields of climate change, energy, environment and green growth.
Most Danish projects are investments in green production, promote social responsibility, have widespread value, and can be considered models for high-quality investment projects, demonstrating Vietnam's determination to attract green projects, aiming to achieve the Net Zero target by 2050. |
In 2013, the two countries established a Comprehensive Partnership, in which green transformation and sustainable development are always prominent topics in all cooperation in trade, investment, energy, health, agriculture and food, education, etc.
The Vietnam-Denmark Energy Partnership Program has been implemented since 2013 and has achieved many substantial results.
The two sides have developed and published Energy Outlook Reports, provided assessments and policy recommendations, contributing to promoting sustainable development of the energy sector towards increasing the exploitation of clean and renewable energy, and using energy economically and efficiently.
Following this, the Vietnam-Denmark strategic cooperation in food and agriculture was launched in 2017 with the aim of supporting the green transition in Vietnam to build a more sustainable food system.
The cooperation projects have clearly impacted food safety in Vietnam such as processing, feed control, and traceability in the pork value chain.
In November 2023, Vietnam and Denmark established a Green Strategic Partnership with 10 overarching areas of cooperation and adopted a Joint Action Plan for the 2024-2025 period.
In addition, in the field of economic cooperation, Vietnam focuses on attracting green investment, expanding cooperation in the fields of renewable energy, maritime transport, and logistics to support businesses of the two countries to take advantage of opportunities from value chains, green supply and advanced technologies. The S-shaped country has attracted many high-quality green investment projects from Denmark.
For example, the Lego Group's project to build the world's first carbon-neutral factory in Binh Duong (Vietnam), with a total investment of 1.3 billion USD, attracting about 4,000 workers and inaugurated and put into operation on April 9, 2025.
Most Danish projects are investments in green production, promote social responsibility, have widespread value, and can be considered models for high-quality investment projects, demonstrating Vietnam's determination to attract green projects, aiming to achieve the goal of net zero emissions by 2050.
The above practical and concrete cooperation projects are both a testament to the shared aspirations and visions of Vietnam and Denmark, and at the same time, demonstrate the commitment and determination of the leaders and people of the two countries in green growth and sustainable development, creating an important premise to bring the relationship between the two countries to new heights.

Active and responsible member
As one of the founding members and an official partner of the Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) High-level Forum, Vietnam has always participated actively and responsibly, closely coordinating with members to promote the agenda, vision and mission of the Forum.
This year, Vietnam will work closely with Denmark and P4G members to host the fourth P4G Summit in Hanoi.
Choosing the theme “Green and sustainable transformation, focusing on people”, the P4G Summit has put forward a rich agenda with specific and substantive contents. The conference is a testament to Vietnam’s commitment, contributing to providing feasible solutions to accelerate the green transformation and sustainable development process.
In the context of the world experiencing many new, unpredictable developments with many challenges and the time to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 is approaching, Vietnam's efforts and determination have been recognized and supported by international partners. Denmark, the country that initiated and contributed the most financially to P4G, strongly supported Vietnam in hosting the Conference and actively cooperated in the preparation and organization process.

P4G is the world's leading forum for promoting public-private partnerships, connecting governments, businesses and socio-political organizations to promote green growth.
Therefore, by hosting the Conference, Vietnam has the opportunity to mobilize the participation of the domestic and international business community as well as P4G partners to participate in green transformation, climate change response and sustainable development.
Cooperation within the framework of the Forum further deepens the existing cooperative relations between Vietnam and Denmark.
Through P4G, Vietnam can mobilize Denmark to support and cooperate through public-private partnerships, providing financial and technical support for small and micro enterprises to carry out environmental protection activities and respond to climate change.
These are very practical fields for Vietnam and up to now, 12 projects have been and are being implemented in the country through this cooperation mechanism.
Looking to the future, green transformation and sustainable development continue to be the common trend of the world, the great goal and ideal of humanity, for happiness and quality of life. Green growth and sustainable development are strategic issues, therefore, requiring joint efforts and participation from the central, local, people, businesses, political and social organizations, including young people.
If given the conditions and opportunities, the young generation will become an important force contributing to the green growth and sustainable development process of Vietnam and the world.
The fourth P4G Summit, hosted for the first time by Vietnam, took place from April 14-17 in Hanoi. P4G currently has 9 member countries, including: Denmark, Vietnam, Korea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Colombia, Netherlands, Indonesia, South Africa and 5 partner organizations (World Resources Institute - WRI, Global Green Growth Institute - GGGI, C40 network - C40 cities, World Economic Forum - WEF and International Finance Corporation - IFC). P4G has gone through three Summits hosted by Denmark, South Korea and Colombia, aiming to promote public-private partnerships and create a coalition of political leaders to implement the Paris Agreement on climate change and the 2030 sustainable development goals. Hosting this year's Summit is considered an opportunity for Vietnam in general and Hanoi in particular to promote green tourism, strengthen relations with partners, mobilize resources for socio-economic development, respond to climate change and sustainable development of the country. |
