According to Yonhap , a South Korean Navy P-3 patrol plane carrying four people crashed into a mountain in Pohang city at around 1:49 p.m. on May 29 (local time).
"A P-3 maritime patrol aircraft, which took off at 1:43 p.m. during takeoff and landing training from an air base in Pohang, crashed at a nearby location at around 1:49 p.m. for unknown reasons," the South Korean Navy said in a statement.


Witnesses said they saw smoke billowing and a loud explosion at the crash site.
The fire department dispatched 17 appliances and about 40 personnel to the scene.
Three bodies, believed to be those on board the plane, were found at the crash scene.

The South Korean Navy has set up a unit to investigate the accident. No civilian casualties have been reported.
The South Korean Navy operates 16 P-3C aircraft, dubbed the "submarine killer." The first eight of the 16 were deployed in 1995.
