The effectiveness of the Livelihood Project in Dong Tho

- After 1 year, the Provincial Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Orphans implemented the Project on health care, living and livelihood support for people with disabilities, orphans, and people in difficult circumstances in Dong Tho commune (Son Duong), disadvantaged people in the commune have the opportunity to receive health care and improve their lives.

Mr. Duong Pham Tuong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Orphans, said: “According to a survey, in Dong Tho commune (Son Duong), there are 430 people with disabilities, orphans and other subjects. Most families of people with disabilities are poor, near-poor, in difficult circumstances, without stable jobs. People with disabilities themselves mainly rely on family, relatives, and social benefits. Therefore, creating a livelihood for their families and people with disabilities is a difficult problem. Faced with this situation, in 2024, the Provincial Association implemented the Project on Health Care, Support for Living and Livelihood for 430 people with disabilities, orphans and people in difficult circumstances in the commune with activities such as: Giving wheelchairs, scholarships and gifts to students in difficult circumstances who have excelled in their studies; supporting the construction of new houses, sanitation facilities, capital for livestock raising, etc. The project creates conditions for people with disabilities, orphans, and people in difficult circumstances to have a difficult situations in health, living, and livelihood to improve the quality of life".

Disabled and elderly people in Dong Tho commune (Son Duong) receive free medical examination and treatment.

Ms. Luc Thi Xanh, from Da Tho village, is severely disabled, has difficulty walking, is unable to work, and lives in a dilapidated house that leaks when it rains and is at risk of collapsing during the storm season. Knowing Ms. Xanh's difficult situation, the Provincial Association for the Protection of People with Disabilities and Orphans mobilized businesses and philanthropists to support 50 million VND to build a new house. After more than 2 months of construction, the house was completed, spacious, beautiful, with an area of ​​over 60 square meters, and a cost of over 170 million VND. Ms. Xanh said that her dream of having a new house has now come true. This is the motivation for her family to encourage each other to strive to improve and stabilize their lives.

The family of Mr. Ninh Van Than, a disabled person in Huu Loc village, is one of 10 households receiving capital support for livestock farming from the Project. He shared: “From the family support fund, I bought chickens to raise. The farming was favorable, so I boldly borrowed more money from my brothers and relatives to buy more breeding stock, and I now have nearly 100 chickens. Each batch can be sold for 2-3 million VND. My family's life has improved a lot.”

After one year of implementing the Project, 240 disadvantaged people have received free medical examination and treatment; 1 new house was built, 17 wheelchairs were donated, 9 households were supported to build sanitary facilities, 10 households were supported with capital for livestock raising and providing services; 30 bicycles, 15 scholarships, 200 gifts were donated to students and people with disabilities, etc.

Comrade Au Van Ta, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Tho commune said: "The project of health care, supporting living and livelihood for people with disabilities, orphans, and people in difficult circumstances in Dong Tho commune helps disadvantaged people in the commune have more opportunities to integrate, overcome inferiority complexes, and confidently rise up in life. The project not only demonstrates the spirit of humanity and sharing but also contributes to building a fair and civilized society, contributing with the commune to implement the New Rural Development Program".
It can be affirmed that supporting livelihoods for people with disabilities is a deeply humane project, meeting the expectations of poor people with disabilities. Hopefully, the project will continue to be replicated in many localities, so that more and more people with disabilities can overcome their fate, overcome their inferiority complex, and confidently integrate into the community.
