In 2015, Mr. Ha Ngoc Binh (Thai village, Brong Krang commune) intercropped 500 macadamia trees on an area of 1 hectare of coffee garden following the pilot macadamia planting model of the Lak District Agricultural Extension Station. After 7 years of care, the trees began to bear fruit, with each tree yielding an average of 15 - 20 kg of fresh nuts per crop. With this model, each year, he earns more than 200 million VND from selling agricultural products.
According to Mr. Binh, the investment cost of macadamia is quite low, each year only spending a small amount to buy fertilizer. Moreover, when intercropped with coffee trees, the canopy of macadamia trees both blocks the wind and creates shade to help the coffee trees grow, giving more stable productivity.

The application of mechanization and water-saving irrigation has also contributed to changing the farming mindset, improving productivity and income of many households in Lak district, including Mr. Nguyen Duy Tue's household (Group 4, Lien Son town). Mr. Tue said that realizing that tobacco is a drought-resistant plant, suitable for local soil conditions, in October 2023, he and a friend invested in renting 10 hectares of single-crop rice land in Bong Krang commune to grow tobacco. Along with that, he cooperated with Phuc Thinh Production Investment Company Limited (Krong Bong district) to be provided with seeds and techniques for taking care of tobacco plants. After 5 months of growing tobacco, Mr. Tue earned a profit of 300 million VND from selling dried tobacco leaves.
According to Mr. Tran Danh Hiep, Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lak district, changing the crop structure is one of the important solutions to increase income for local people. In addition to focusing on producing key crops such as rice, corn, coffee, the district also develops some fruit trees with high economic value such as Thai jackfruit, durian, longan... to increase production value on a land area, limiting price risks.

In 2024, the total agricultural production value of Lak district will reach 3,161 billion VND. The district has also built 3 concentrated rice production areas associated with consumption with an area of 114.7 hectares; converted 904.7 hectares of inefficient rice land with difficulties in irrigation water to grow other crops such as sweet potatoes and vegetables; more than 5,512 hectares of coffee and cashew trees have been produced with new science and technology by people to increase economic efficiency and sustainable development.
In addition, to increase the added value of agricultural products and create branded products, from 2021 to 2025, the locality has focused on building 71 cooperatives, cooperative groups and 44 farms for growing and raising crops; building 5 production chains linked to product consumption between enterprises in the district and people; developing 10 products with 3-star OCOP certification.
