Compared with the targets in Decision 1336 assigned by the Prime Minister, the project has achieved and exceeded 3 targets including: 63/63 provinces and cities nationwide have newly established intergenerational self-help clubs, exceeding 105% of the target and tasks; newly established 6,000 intergenerational self-help clubs, bringing the current total to 9,000 clubs, exceeding 200% of the target and tasks; mobilized 330,000 members to participate, exceeding 200% of the target and tasks. However, there are two targets that have not been achieved: 150,000 members of intergenerational self-help clubs have access to loans for production and business, reaching only 45% (the target assigned by the Government is 50%); 40% of intergenerational self-help clubs fully implement 8 activities and maintain monthly activities (Government target is 80%).
Representatives of departments, branches and sectors attended and contributed many good ideas for the activities of the Association of the Elderly of Ca Mau province in the coming period.
Ca Mau alone currently has over 147,360 elderly people; of which there are over 132,660 members, accounting for over 90% of the number of elderly people in the province. Up to now, the province has 100 health care clubs for the elderly in the community, with 857 volunteers taking care of the elderly's health. In addition, in 2024, the province will also have 64 intergenerational self-help clubs established and expanded with over 3,140 members, of which over 70% are elderly people, the rest are middle-aged people and local youth. According to the report, these clubs operate on the principles of self-management, self-help and mobilizing local resources.
Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, Chairman of the Association of the Elderly in Ca Mau province, said: “Intergenerational self-help clubs contribute to improving the health of the elderly, preserving and transmitting national culture, improving and enhancing the quality of life, contributing to poverty reduction, building new rural areas, civilized urban areas, maintaining political security and social order in the area, and at the same time promoting cohesion between generations in the community. In the coming period, Ca Mau will maintain and expand the model, while aiming to build a dynamic aging community, proactively adapting to the increasing rate of population aging in society”.
