Sharing with VietNamNet , Mr. Ho Tuan Anh, Principal of Quynh Phuong Secondary School, said that printing banners in the year-end ceremony is not necessary, and should not become a mandatory requirement from students or parents. Instead, activities should be organized proactively, practically and in accordance with actual circumstances.

“Recently, at the end of the school year, many schools across the country often print banners with large mockups, with diverse content. In addition to the closing ceremony, some schools also include content such as 'Farewell to senior students', 'Awarding students with high achievements',... There is even a 'Gratitude and maturity ceremony for students'... If it is not explained like that, people will not understand the content and program of the year-end summary? In fact, that kind of explanation of the banner is unnecessary, because of course the ceremony or program of the closing ceremony has such content", said Mr. Tuan Anh.

Although there was no banner with the words "Gratitude and maturity ceremony, year-end ceremony", the school still had all the contents: Awarding; farewell to senior students; handing over students to their families and localities for summer vacation.

“Some people also asked why other schools print banners to show gratitude and maturity for students, but my school does not organize any gratitude. I thought for a long time but could not think of anything to show gratitude for, so I gave up. Because teachers go to school as a duty and receive full salary and allowances, they do not give favors to anyone, so why do they demand gratitude? Students go to school as their duty. If they do not want to go to school, teachers must find ways to bring them to school, so they do not owe any favors to teachers to receive gratitude. As for 'maturity', later on in life and the new world will help them 'collision' and grow up. I think both teachers and students and myself - the principal - just focus on fulfilling our duties well,” said Mr. Tuan Anh.

According to the principal, if teachers and students really love each other, they can give each other a bouquet of flowers to say goodbye to the summer vacation, with sincere wishes in every word and thought, instead of colorful, wasteful and expensive banners.

"Later, when each child grows up in life, if they truly remember their teachers, that is fate, and they will cherish them even more," said Mr. Tuan Anh.

What the principal was very upset about was that parents of students in many schools also wanted to show off the grandeur and solemnity by raising money to take pictures and have lavish, expensive parties.

“This has inadvertently created a trend, a race between classes and schools; putting more economic burden on the shoulders of parents who are in difficult circumstances or not well-off. This has also created some consequences, such as some families do not want to participate but do not dare to object, or if they object, they are easily isolated by the crowd, or some parents do not understand and blame the school, thinking that the school is overcharging. Not to mention, students can have too much fun, and in fact, there have been heartbreaking traffic accidents after students finished partying,” said Mr. Tuan Anh.

The principal believes that in order foreducational activities to be substantive, we should reduce the "colorful, ostentatious" things, including the year-end ceremony.

Personally, Mr. Tuan Anh just hopes that his students will have a happy summer vacation, be able to freely play and be safe.
