Ruben Amorim has publicly apologised to Man Utd fans and called for unity and non-aggression after the 2-0 win at Old Trafford over Aston Villa ended the club's worst ever Premier League season.

Four days after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham in Spain, Man Utd finished 15th, their lowest position in the Premier League table. Looking back at the club's history, Man Utd have finished lowest in every season apart from relegation in 1973-74.

After a bitter season on and off the pitch as fans protested against the club's owners and hundreds of jobs were cut at Old Trafford, Amorim has urged fans to move forward after apologising for the disastrous season.

"First of all, I want to apologise for this season. I know you've been really disappointed in me and the team. I want to say thank you, we've been very grateful for your support throughout the season and I know it's been really difficult to support us in many games," Amorim said at the end of the match against Aston Villa.

The Portuguese tactician continued: "However, now we have to make a choice either we will be stuck in the past because this season is the past, everything is over, or we have to fight together, have to be united and move forward."

Amorim took over at Man Utd last November after leaving Sporting Lisbon to succeed the sacked Erik ten Hag. After warning of tough times ahead in November, Amorim said it was time to focus on a brighter future.

"Six months ago, in my first three games in charge, with two wins and a draw, I told you that the storm was coming. Today, after this disastrous season, I want to tell you that good days are coming.

If there is a club in the world that has proven in the past that it can overcome any situation, any disaster, it is our club, Man Utd. Now, I also want to apologize to my players. Sometimes I am not fair, but I always try to be honest with you. Thank you very much, see you next season," said Amorim.
