"Vietnam has 4 players called up to the ASEAN All Stars team and it is an honor that Hanoi Club contributes 2 faces, Do Duy Manh and Nguyen Hai Long. This is a good opportunity for them to approach and learn about world football level. Hopefully they will bring that top experience back to contribute to the club and help Vietnamese football", coach Makoto Teguramori answered Tuoi Tre Online 's question on the evening of May 26, after Hanoi Club won 2-0 against Cong An Ha Noi.
At Hang Day Stadium, Hanoi Club had a derby match with Cong An Hanoi (CAHN) within the framework of round 24 of V-League 2024 - 2025. Duy Manh and Hai Long both participated in this match and helped the capital team win 2-0.
After this match, Manh and Long will go to Malaysia to join the ASEAN All Stars team. The Southeast Asian All Stars team under the guidance of coach Kim Sang Sik will play a friendly match against Manchester United at Bukit Jalil Stadium on May 28. After the match, the players will return to Hanoi to join the Vietnamese team to prepare for the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
Talking about the match with CAHN Club, Coach Makoto said that this victory has a lot of meaning for Hanoi.
"If Hanoi loses and Nam Dinh wins in this round, the championship race will end. The 2-0 victory over CAHN is an emotional victory because we are the ones who keep the appeal of V-League. Hanoi's chance in the championship race is still there," said the Japanese coach.
On the other side of the battle line, head coach Alexandre Polking did not think that the strain of playing the last two Southeast Asian finals was the reason for the defeat against Hanoi.
"CAHN Club still has goals in V-League (winning top 3) and National Cup (reaching the final). In the upcoming matches, I will also have a plan to rotate players to create the most favorable conditions for the national team players," said Coach Polking.
The match between CAHN and Hanoi is the highlight of round 24 of the V-League. With this victory, Hanoi consolidated its second place in the table with 46 points, maintaining a 5-point gap with the leading team Nam Dinh (51 points). With only 2 rounds left in the tournament, the chance for the capital team to turn the tables is not much, because to become the champion, they must win 2 matches and wait for Nam Dinh to lose both.
