Vietnam team returns home
On the afternoon of November 20, the Vietnamese team returned home after a 2-0 victory over Laos in the second leg of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers. This was also the last match of coach Kim Sang-sik and his team in 2025.
In 2025, the Vietnamese team played a total of 8 international matches, won 7 and lost 1. Of which, the team won two victories against Thailand in the first and second leg of the 2024 ASEAN Cup final (2-1, 3-2), and also had a series of results in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers: won Laos 5-0 and 2-0, won Nepal 3-1 and 1-0, and lost to Malaysia 0-4 in the match after which FIFA concluded that the opposing team used 7 ineligible naturalized players.

Before entering the Asian qualifiers, coach Kim Sang-sik and his team also started with a 2-1 victory over Cambodia in a friendly match at Binh Duong Stadium.
The Vietnamese team also received good news when it moved up one place to 110th in the world on FIFA's November 2025 rankings. Notably, this ranking improved even though the accumulated points from the 2-0 win over Laos have not been updated and will be added by FIFA to the next ranking announcement.
Coach Kim Sang-sik continues his new adventure
After completing their national duties, the players will return to their home clubs. Coach Kim Sang-sik and his coaching staff will join the U.23 Vietnam team in Vung Tau on November 23 to prepare for the 33rd SEA Games.

The Vietnam team will return on FIFA Days in 2026, first in March 2026 to play the final match against Malaysia in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
Meanwhile, U.23 Vietnam is in the same group as U.23 Laos and U.23 Malaysia at SEA Games 33. Coach Kim and his team will meet U.23 Laos in the opening match on December 4, then compete with U.23 Malaysia on December 11.
U.23 Vietnam won the SEA Games 30 (2019) and 31 (2022). However, at the SEA Games 32 two years ago, Van Truong and his teammates only won the bronze medal after losing to U.23 Indonesia 2-3 in the semi-finals. The goal of U.23 Vietnam in this year's tournament is to win the gold medal after three years of waiting.
