This afternoon, May 6, the Vietnam Women's Football Team officially gathered and had their first training session at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center ( Hanoi ) to prepare for important international missions in 2025, including the 2026 Asian Women's Championship qualifiers, the 2025 Southeast Asian Women's Championship and the 33rd SEA Games.
Sharing in the first training session of the whole team, head coach Mai Duc Chung said he expected the resilience of the young players to bring a "new breeze" to the Vietnam Women's Team in this training session, in order to prepare for important tasks in the coming time.
"In this training session, the coaching board decided to call up many young athletes (notably Vu Thi Hoa) to the national team with the hope that these players who have demonstrated their abilities can learn and integrate well with the "veterans" to create a balance in the force, aiming to complete the tasks well this year," coach Mai Duc Chung emphasized.
In 2024, Vu Thi Hoa was a key factor in the success of Phong Phu Ha Nam Club in winning the National U19 Women's Championship, and was also the tournament's best player. Coach Mai Duc Chung hopes that this young midfielder can soon find a connection with her seniors to increase the breakthrough in the playing style of the Vietnam Women's Team.
In addition to the young players, the "captain" of the Vietnam Women's Team said that the team also welcomed a new face in this short training session, which is the case of Vietnamese-American female player Nguyen Hoang Nam Mi, who flew from Canada to Hanoi to wait to join the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club (preparing to compete in the semi-finals of the 2024-2025 Asian Women's Club Championship).
"Nam Mi has been allowed by the Vietnam Football Federation to temporarily train with the National Team during this training session. This morning, Nam Mi and I had a discussion and both teachers and students are very happy that she has the opportunity to return to compete and contribute to the Fatherland. The training time during this training session is an opportunity for Nam Mi to get acquainted and get in tune with the team's exercises and is also an opportunity for the coaching staff to better understand her professional abilities," said coach Mai Duc Chung.
According to the plan, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team will have 10 days of training in Hanoi, before playing an international friendly match with Werder Bremen Women's Club (Sportverein Werder Bremen) at 7:00 p.m. on May 16.
The friendly match is part of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Federal Republic of Germany. Previously, on May 12, the National Women's Team players were scheduled to have a friendly match with the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Club.
At the end of phase 1 of the first training session in 2025, the Vietnam Women's Team will depart for Japan for training from June 8 to June 18.
After this training trip, the team will move to Viet Tri (Phu Tho) to continue training and compete in the qualifying round of the 2026 Asian Women's Football Championship, with matches in Group E (with the participation of Maldives, UAE and Guam) taking place from June 29 to July 5, 2025./.
