"We completely respect the Vietnamese team. But we will do everything to end more than a decade of not being able to defeat them," that was the latest message sent from coach Peter Cklamovski yesterday, in a press conference that was not even related to the Vietnamese team.
This is the press conference before Malaysia plays the African team Cape Verde again. The first match, the two teams drew 1-1 and tonight, they will play again in a stadium without spectators in Kuala Lumpur. The reason Mr. Cklamovski mentioned Vietnam in an event unrelated to the Vietnam team is because the two friendly matches with Cape Verde are considered a rehearsal to prepare for the ultimate goal, which is to defeat the Vietnam team on June 10 in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
"The data shows the best improvement in the history of the team (Malaysia). It proves that we are on the right track," Cklamovski continued. "Cape Verde is a world- class team, fighting for a place in the World Cup. It is a big challenge and I want to see how far my players can go."

In theory, Cape Verde is much better than Malaysia. Cape Verde is ranked 72nd in the world, 60 places higher than Malaysia. This team is a formidable name when qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in Africa, they are leading with a position even higher than the giant Cameroon.
According to Mr. Cklamovski, the reason Cape Verde was chosen for the Tigers to "practice" is because this team is quite similar to Vietnam. "They play directly, are physically strong and effective. Cape Verde's playing style is quite similar to the Vietnam team."
All the preparations and recent statements show the great ambition of coach Cklamovski and his team. This coach is expected to be able to help Malaysia end 11 years of draws and losses to Vietnam, including many heavy defeats. And he will have the opportunity when the two teams face off in Kuala Lumpur on June 10.
