That is why PSSI wants to decide the future of coach Shin Tae Yong soon. The agency's president, Erick Thohir, announced: "Coach Shin Tae Yong's contract with PSSI will expire at the end of this year. The Indonesian U20 team now has no hope of participating in the World Cup. We will soon sit down with the Korean coach and consider the next plan.
The Indonesian team's next event is the 2023 Asian Cup. This tournament will take place in January next year. Therefore, Indonesian football must soon orient its future. I spoke with coach Shin Tae Yong when the Indonesian U20 team was preparing for the World Cup as well as during the team's training camp in Korea.
But now, the preparations of the Indonesian U20 team have ended. We need to meet to discuss the issues. Coach Shin Tae Yong is very good but I demand more than that."

Meanwhile, expert Mohamad Kusnaeni shared on CNN Indonesia: "It is really difficult to evaluate the ability of coach Shin Tae Yong. PSSI hired him to prepare for the 2023 U20 World Cup. However, U20 Indonesia no longer has a chance to participate in this tournament. It is very difficult to evaluate the ability of coach Shin Tae Yong in the past three years.
He has not achieved anything significant. The AFF Cup is the best measure but he could not help the Indonesian team win the championship. PSSI will have to base his assessment on other factors, such as the national team's ranking on the FIFA rankings."
Remember, after U20 Indonesia could not participate in the U20 World Cup, coach Shin Tae Yong set a goal to help the team participate in the 2026 World Cup. He shared: "We have FIFA Days in June and the 2023 Asian Cup ahead of us. I want to take this opportunity to help the Indonesian team have the best quality squad to serve the goal of winning a ticket to the 2026 World Cup. Asia has 8.5 tickets and I believe Indonesia has a chance to compete. We will make history for Southeast Asian football."
