Coach Troussier said harsh words that made the Vietnamese team's stars pale.

On the morning of June 5, at the headquarters of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), a press conference took place before the June training session of the Vietnamese team.

Speaking at the press conference, coach Troussier said: "In the near future, the national team and U23 will have important tasks.

The Vietnam national team will compete in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers starting in November. From now until then, we will have 3 more training sessions in June, September and October.

As for U23 Vietnam, they will participate in the 2024 U23 Asian qualifiers in September. We only have one training session left in June to train them."

"I am responsible for coaching both the Vietnam national team and the Vietnam U23 team. That is why I called a total of 58 players and summoned both teams at the same time.

In terms of the player list, to test the details of the national team, I called 34 players and 24 players for the U23 team. But in terms of expertise, the two teams will share the same coaching staff.

Both teams have similar playing styles and formations. Therefore, they will practice together in all training sessions.

Regarding the players' gathering time, they mainly gather for 3 days: June 5, 6, 7 depending on the match schedule of the home team.

In addition, for the players playing in the first division, they will gather later, on June 9 and 10. For the two players playing in Korea and Japan, they will gather around June 12 and 13. These are also the two players who will gather the latest," Mr. Troussier informed.

Notably, at the press conference, the French coach announced that many players were called up for this meeting not because they are playing well but because of their reputation and experience.

“I call players based on many criteria. For group 1, I respect players with experience and position, who have worn the Vietnamese national team jersey many times.

Because V-League does not have many matches and has not been played continuously recently, I decided that group 1 includes players who have more than 10 official appearances for the Vietnam national team.

Based on current form at the club, many players in this group do not deserve to be called up.

But because I called up 34 players, I called a large number to create a comparison, thereby drawing a complete picture of the players' abilities.

Group 2 includes players who have never, or rarely, played for the Vietnam national team. I closely follow their performance at the club.

However, performing well at the club is not necessarily suitable for the national team, with what I set out and requested. Whether they can meet the requirements or not, we will have to wait until the next training week," said Mr. Troussier.

According to plan, the Vietnamese team will start gathering from June 5, but because the players have to compete with their clubs, it will not be until June 7 that coach Troussier has enough personnel to practice.

On the occasion of FIFA Day in June, the Vietnamese team will have two friendly matches with Hong Kong (China) on June 15 and 5 days later will compete with Syria.
