Support women to develop economy, improve living standards

“The Garment Processing Cooperative model was established by the Women's Union of the ward in 2023, currently providing jobs for 9 members, with an income of 3-4 million VND/person/month. The Women's Union of the ward also maintains and replicates many models to help members and women increase their income, such as: small trading, growing vegetables on water, gardening...” - Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diem, President of the Women's Union of Tan Phu ward, Cai Rang district, excitedly informed.

Officials of the Women's Union of Tan Phu ward visited members about their production and life situation.

These days, members of the Sewing Cooperative are busy with work. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thao, a member of the Cooperative, said: “Before, I stayed at home to do housework and take care of my children, and my family's life depended on my husband's wages. For nearly a year now, with encouragement from the Association's staff, I have learned a trade and joined the sewing industry. Thanks to that, I have a monthly income of about 3 million VND, helping my husband with household expenses.”

The Ward Women's Union focuses on supporting women through Project 939 "Supporting women to start a business in the period of 2017-2025". At the same time, strengthen coordination with functional departments to help members and women access loans. The whole ward has 11 groups borrowing capital from the Social Policy Bank, with 469 households borrowing to invest in production, livestock, garden renovation, small business... total capital of over 20.8 billion VND.

Previously, the family economy of Ms. Nguyen Huyen Trang, Women's Association of Phu Thanh area, faced many difficulties. The family only had 2 hectares of land but it was a mixed garden, with little profit, and 2 young children. Ms. Trang shared: "The Women's Association supported me with the loan application to renovate the garden to grow Thai jackfruit and open a grocery store at home. Currently, the jackfruit garden has a profit, the family economy is gradually stabilizing."

In addition, the Women's Union of Tan Phu Ward cares about helping members and their children in difficult circumstances. In particular, the model of "Social mobilization to support and care for disadvantaged women and women in difficult circumstances" established by the Union in 2022 has so far supported more than 195 poor women, women in difficult circumstances with illnesses, and lonely elderly people with no place to rely on. The model has been commended and rewarded as a model of skillful mass mobilization at ward and district levels for 3 consecutive years.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuong in Thanh Phu area, a near-poor household, suffered a serious stroke, had difficulty moving, and was no longer able to work. The Ward Women's Union coordinated with the Ward Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee to visit, give gifts, and mobilize benefactors to regularly support Ms. Thuong.

Since the beginning of the 2021-2026 term, the Ward Women's Union has mobilized 250 gifts for members and women in difficult circumstances, with a total value of 67 million VND. At the same time, it mobilized 61 Mid-Autumn Festival gifts with a total value of 25 million VND; 20 scholarships worth 10 million VND to take care of members' children. The Union mobilized 1,987 members to participate in health insurance, bringing the total number of members participating in health insurance to 97.5%; introduced and solved jobs for 65 women at companies and factories.

With enthusiasm and responsibility, the Executive Committee of the Women's Union of Tan Phu Ward has built highly effective activities and movements, especially the movement of women helping each other to do business, reduce poverty, and ensure social security. As a result, since the beginning of the 2021-2026 term, the Union has helped 28 women escape poverty and near poverty, achieving the annual targets assigned by the District Union. Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diem, President of the Women's Union of Tan Phu Ward, informed: "Currently, there are 12 poor and near-poor households with women. We will continue to implement practical solutions to support women in economic development and improve their living standards; at the same time, mobilize socialized resources to take care of the material and spiritual lives of women".
