Many valuable scholarships
As one of the first people to join CERT, Nguyen Van Tien, a former student of class 14X3, majoring in Bridge and Road Construction, University of Science and Technology, received a full scholarship for a master's program in Korea.
While studying in Korea, Tien published 8 ISI articles. After working for a foreign structural company, Tien returned to Da Nang to run the construction company he co-founded.
Similarly, nearly a year ago, Le Minh Truyen, a former student of class 19X3CLC, majoring in Civil Engineering (Faculty of Bridge and Road Construction) began his journey to conquer the path of education and research with a scholarship from the Korean Government .
Truyen shared that the most difficult part of preparing a scholarship application is writing a personal essay and making a study plan.
During the 3 months of preparation, writing, editing and improving the quality of the essay took a lot of time. However, with the support of Dr. Nguyen Phuoc Quy Duy and Vo Dinh Quang Nhat (students at the same school, previously received a scholarship in Korea), Truyen completed the essay well and gained more experience in the interview.
It is known that since the end of 2017, while studying and researching in the US and Australia, Dr. Do Viet Hai, Dr. Do Quang Trung, Dr. Hoang Phuong Tung, Dr. Nguyen Phuoc Quy Duy (all former students of the University of Technology) talked and wondered about how to help students in their homeland have more opportunities to reach out to the world .
Dr. Do Viet Hai, Head of the Department of Bridges and Underground Construction, Faculty of Bridge and Road Construction and Director of the Center for Student Support and Business Relations, University of Technology, shared: “We believe that education is the best way to change the fate of individuals and contribute to changing the future of the country. With that belief, we gradually formed activities to support students in developing foreign languages, research skills, finding scholarships to study abroad, etc. and the CERT model was born”.
After 7 years of implementation, the CERT model has achieved many impressive results. In addition to the research of students published while studying at the University of Science and Technology, from the connection of CERT, many students received full scholarships such as: 2 doctoral scholarships from Australian professors, American professors; 2 master's scholarships from the Japanese Government; 2 master's scholarships from the Korean Government; 1 master's scholarship from a Korean professor; 15 university students received scholarships to participate in short-term exchange programs (from 1-4 weeks) in Japan and Korea.
Expanding the academic advisory group
With this model, lecturers deploy an academic development ecosystem for students from first year to graduation, including: sponsoring English scholarships, orienting a systematic and professional English learning path; organizing scientific research groups, expanding access opportunities for students by inviting lecturers and experts to organize small classes on university learning methods, document searching skills, writing scientific reports, international publications, learning specialized English...
Lecturers accompany students in personal development, from skills to long-term goals, equipping students with skills to understand themselves, build study plans, work in groups, communicate, present; build an academic community connecting generations...
According to Dr. Do Viet Hai, students today are very active, sensitive, and know how to take advantage of technology to study and find opportunities. They are also open-minded and ready to change to adapt.
However, the biggest weakness is the lack of perseverance and depth, especially in things that require long-term investment such as research, building basic skills, or preparing a thorough scholarship application.
Start early, do it for real - learn for real with a spirit of inquiry, kindness and perseverance. Only real ability and irreplaceable thinking are the most solid foundation for development.
In addition, Dr. Do Viet Hai also identified CERT as a long-term orientation of the Student Support and Business Relations Center in accompanying and supporting students.
In the coming time, the center will expand the model of "academic advisory groups" associated with research groups and specialized groups, directly led by lecturers. At the same time, develop a system of student communities for all courses, build open learning resources, connect online, without time and space limitations.
The center will connect more strongly with alumni who have studied abroad and worked to share, inspire and lead the next generation.
The goal is to create a seamless academic-professional ecosystem that accompanies students from their first year through graduation and beyond.
