The "death hole" on National Highway 3B continues to subside, the mouth of the hole is wider than before, the rising water level makes it difficult to search for missing victims.
According to Ms. Nguyet, the complex geological structure of the area poses many challenges for the search. The sinkhole is believed to be related to an underground cave system, with many layers of limestone and strong underground water veins, posing a potential risk of landslides at any time. The search area has been expanded, and authorities have mobilized more specialized equipment and increased forces to speed up the search.
"Search and rescue operations are still being actively carried out, hoping to find the victims. However, with the complicated developments at the scene and geological difficulties, this process may take longer," Mrs. Nguyet added.
Mr. Truong Quang Trong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Kim Lu Commune (Na Ri District) said that through the survey, the subsidence phenomenon has not stopped, the mouth of the hole continues to widen. The water level in the hole continues to rise, causing many difficulties for the rescue work.
“The search was difficult due to groundwater flooding into the pit, along with an unidentified underground tunnel system or underground flow. Some wells and underground water sources in the area have also dried up, indicating a major geological change. Notably, after pumping out the water in the pit, the rescue team also discovered fish living there." Mr. Trong said.
Providing more information about the subsidence phenomenon, the commune chairman said that before the incident of the motorcyclist falling into the hole, the authorities had dumped nearly 200m3 of rubble to fill it, but after just one night, all of this rubble disappeared without a trace.
Mr. Le Quang Giap, Commander of the Military Command of Kim Lu commune, said that since 10 pm on May 26, more than 10 officers and militia soldiers of Kim Lu commune have been on duty 24/7 here, coordinating with other forces to deploy rescue measures and search for victims.
" From the moment the victim fell into the "death hole" in Kim Lu commune, Na Ri district, all levels and functional agencies, especially the rescue force, raced against time, regardless of danger and hardship to find the victim," Mr. Giap shared.
In recent days, the search has encountered many difficulties as the water level in the "death hole" has risen again, causing great obstacles for the rescue team. The scene is still strictly sealed off, with warning ropes stretched out. The rescue team set up makeshift tents and took turns working through the night to search for the missing people.
At around 9pm on May 26, Nguyen Duy Ph. (36 years old, Kim Hy commune, Na Ri district) drove his motorbike at high speed and crashed into a fenced area, warning of danger due to a large sinkhole. After that, both he and his motorbike fell into the deep hole.
On the night of the incident, authorities quickly arrived and deployed rescue work.
Authorities have mobilized many modern and manual equipment such as specialized cameras, field pumps, mechanical tools... to serve the search in the hole more than 10m deep. However, after 1 week, the authorities still have not found the victim.
