This historic victory was celebrated with great fanfare upon her return to Jamaica. "The reception when I returned was fantastic. The airport was packed with people. The government issued millions of commemorative stamps with me in my swimsuit. There were receptions with Sir Alexander Bustamante and Governor-General Sir Clifford Campbell and his wife. I was presented with the golden key to the city of Kingston," Crawford recalled in an interview.
Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness honored Crawford in a statement, calling her a "true pioneer of Jamaica".
“Carole’s victory at just 20 years old not only broke stereotypes but also brought great pride to our country, showcasing Jamaica’s beauty and talent to the world. Her legacy is one of resilience and inspiration, reminding us that greatness has no boundaries,” he said.
