Green transport development is an inevitable trend in urban areas.

The event includes a plenary session, four thematic workshops and an exhibition displaying green products, works and solutions in the fields of construction and transportation.

Green transport development is an inevitable trend.

At the thematic seminars, domestic and foreign experts and delegates discussed green logistics strategies, carbon emission reduction, application of digital technology - artificial intelligence (AI) in transportation and development of environmentally friendly construction materials.

Mr. Nguyen Huy Hoang, Head of Strategy and Policy Department (Academy of Strategy, Training of Construction Officials , Ministry of Construction), said that in the green transport development strategy, there are many tasks and solutions that need to be implemented, but the important thing is to identify the top priorities.

According to Mr. Hoang, there are 6 groups of key tasks and solutions, first of all, perfecting the legal and institutional framework, building a set of criteria and standards for evaluating the green transport system. Currently, road transport accounts for the largest proportion, much higher than railways and waterways, so it is necessary to strongly restructure the transport market share, towards reducing dependence on road transport to move towards more sustainable development.

Mr. Nguyen Huy Hoang said that, along with restructuring the transportation market share, there needs to be a plan to convert vehicles and transport infrastructure towards greening, that is, combining the development of green infrastructure with green vehicles, while promoting digital transformation and the application of smart transport.

Sharing the same view, Mr. Tran Tien Dung, Vice President of the Vietnam Logistics Service Enterprises Association, said that developing green logistics is an inevitable trend, helping businesses improve their competitiveness and contribute to achieving the national emission reduction target. However, according to him, the State needs to have priority policies to support businesses in the green transition process, such as reducing fees, lowering loan interest rates and extending loan terms.

According to Mr. Dung, Vietnam has the advantage of more than 3,200 km of coastline and more than 41,900 km of rivers, which is favorable for developing waterway and coastal transport. "This is a method that can reduce CO2 emissions by more than 70% compared to roads. Some pioneering enterprises in this field have reduced CO2 emissions by up to 75% and saved 10-15% of logistics costs," Mr. Dung said.

According to experts, with the current rapid urbanization, especially in big cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, developing a public transport-oriented urban model (TOD) is also an important direction to help reduce CO2 emissions. This model limits people from using personal vehicles and encourages the use of public transport.

Giving further comments on the development of green and smart transportation, Mr. Vu Anh Hung, Director of OEM Solutions Development of Dell Technologies Vietnam, said that artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming the pillar of digital transformation in the transportation sector. This technology has been widely applied in route planning, traffic management and regulation, logistics operations, predictive maintenance as well as ensuring labor safety, contributing to improving the efficiency and sustainability of the infrastructure system.

The country has more than 600 green buildings.

Within the framework of the program, at the workshop "Optimizing the use of energy and construction materials to minimize emissions in green buildings", Mr. Le Van Ke, Deputy Director of the Department of Science, Technology, Environment and Construction Materials (Ministry of Construction) shared: "In recent years, sustainable development and response to climate change have become a key orientation in the national development strategy.

According to statistics, the number of green buildings nationwide has now reached over 600, with a total floor area of nearly 17 million m2, making an important contribution to the development of a green and sustainable economy.

The development of green buildings not only helps improve people's quality of life, but also plays an important role in reducing CO2 emissions, saving energy, conserving resources and promoting a circular economy in construction.
