Japanese Crown Prince and Princess visit My Son Temple Complex

Crown Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko visit the My Son towers on the morning of September 24.

Welcoming and accompanying the visit of the Japanese Crown Prince and Princess were Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Nam province Le Tri Thanh; leaders of the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province.
Crown Prince Akishino and Princess visited the BCD tower complex in My Son Sanctuary. They directly heard about the history of its formation and the role of the towers in the spiritual life of the Champa state and admired the C1 and B1 temples.
Mr. Le Tri Thanh, Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee, briefly introduced the process of restoration, upgrading and protection of My Son World Cultural Heritage in recent times, which has received timely support from the Vietnamese Government and valuable assistance from many countries and organizations around the world in preserving this precious heritage for future generations.

Crown Prince Akishino said that this was the first time he and Princess Kiko had come to the My Son World Cultural Heritage. Before coming to My Son, he had learned about the story of the formation of the My Son Temple Complex and expressed his excitement at visiting this place in person. At the temples and towers visited, the Crown Prince and Princess were introduced to the efforts to preserve the My Son relics as well as the landscape of the heritage and also asked many questions to the tour guide about the history and meaning of the symbols to better understand this heritage.

In 2005, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) supported 54 billion VND to build the My Son Exhibition House at My Son Temple Complex. This is the place to display sculptures excavated in My Son, welcome visitors, provide information about My Son relics to visitors before entering My Son Temple Complex, through illustrative panels and artifacts about inscriptions, sculptures, architecture and models.
In recent years, many survey teams from Japan have come to study My Son Temple Complex. In 2022, Okayama University of Natural Sciences and Frontier Institute of Science and Technology, Japan came here to introduce the application of "Geomagnetic Archaeology" and "Magnetic Stone" in Japan. These applications help Quang Nam province determine the age of terracotta artifacts as well as support the research process of temperature, firing environment, exploration of relics and artifacts still preserved underground to support Vietnam's in-depth research on My Son Temple Complex.

As reported by Van Hoa , within the framework of an official visit at the invitation of the Vietnamese State, on September 23 and 24, Japanese Crown Prince Fumihito Akishino and Princess Kawashima Kiko visited Quang Nam province.
Previously, on the evening of September 23, Japanese Crown Prince Fumihito Akishino and Princess Kawashima Kiko had an audience with representatives of Quang Nam province's leaders and visited the World Cultural Heritage Hoi An - a vivid demonstration of the good traditional relationship between the two countries, from the marriage of Princess Ngoc Hoa and Japanese merchant Araki Sotaro more than 400 years ago.
The delegation visited Hoi An ancient town, some destinations bearing the mark of the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan such as the Japanese Covered Bridge relic, the Japanese cultural exhibition house in Hoi An, visited and took souvenir photos at the model of the Goshuin Ship presented by the Nagasaki provincial government to Hoi An city in 2017 to demonstrate the history of trade between Japanese merchants at Hoi An port in the 16th - 17th centuries. The Goshuin Ship is also associated with the love story of Princess Ngoc Hoa of the South and merchant Araki Sotaro from the land of cherry blossoms.
Speaking at the reception of the Japanese Crown Prince and Princess, Mr. Phan Viet Cuong, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee emphasized: "We are aware that, in every step of development of Quang Nam province like today, there is encouragement, sharing, and active support from Japanese partners and localities, etc. "There is a Japanese proverb that says "Where there is determination, there is a way forward", with the special affection and trust between Vietnam and Japan, through the visit of the Crown Prince, Princess and the Japanese delegation to Quang Nam province, I believe that the Crown Prince and Princess will continue to pay much attention, promoting the friendly cooperation relationship between the two countries in general, between Quang Nam province - Vietnam and Japanese partners and localities in particular to develop more and more", Mr. Phan Viet Cuong expressed.
