Hoang Vu Phong - Pharmacist who donated blood many times

Việt NamViệt Nam28/08/2023

Ever since he was a student at Chu Van An Secondary School in Thai Nguyen City (in 2002), Mr. Hoang Vu Phong, currently a pharmacist working at Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel Hospital , started to donate blood voluntarily. Later, when he had the opportunity to become a medical professional, he became more understanding and sympathetic to patients . This is the reason why he has been willing to donate his blood over the years.

Pharmacist Hoang Vu Phong not only actively donates blood voluntarily but also always strives to fulfill his professional duties well.

Talking to the pharmacist who turned 37, we felt his enthusiasm and positive energy. He shared: When I was a student, I donated blood with the spirit of a youth union member. When I became a student and later worked at the hospital, I donated blood with the mindset of an adult and fully understood the meaning of donating blood to save lives.

Having donated blood since he was a student, Phong became even more diligent in donating blood when he worked in the medical field. When the Hospital’s Youth Union established an emergency blood donation team, he was one of the first to register.

During Tet or other holidays, he and his colleagues are always ready to take on the task. Whenever the hospital calls, whether he is on holiday at home or working at the Department, he is always there to donate blood, saving the patient's life in time.

During his youth, pharmacist Phong donated blood almost 2 or 3 times a year. Many times he even donated blood to patients in emergency situations right at the hospital.

The most memorable blood donation he has ever made was in 2010, when a woman lost too much blood during childbirth and needed an urgent blood transfusion. Meanwhile, no one in her family had the same blood type as the patient. If the patient did not receive a blood transfusion in time, the patient would be in danger of death. Therefore, as soon as he received the call from the Emergency Blood Donation Team, Mr. Phong quickly arrived at the hospital to do the tests and donate blood to save the life.

For nearly 20 years, Mr. Phong cannot remember how many times he has donated blood. He believes that every drop of blood he donates is to save and bring patients who are on the "borderline of life and death" back to this world , so he never hesitates when donating blood.

He said: Every time I donate blood, I contribute to society and I am happy about that. I always hope that these meaningful activities will continue to spread to the community, so that the voluntary blood donation movement will always receive the support of everyone and every family.

Although he has not participated in the Youth Union activities for several years (since 2012, Mr. Phong has been Deputy Secretary of the Hospital Youth Union), his optimistic spirit and enthusiasm in participating in all activities of the agency and unit, especially voluntary blood donation campaigns, are still spreading to the Hospital's youth union members.

His wife, nurse Le Thi Thu Trang, Department of Endocrinology (Gang Thep Hospital), is also very active in donating blood. Although she has just given birth, since 2020, Ms. Trang has donated blood 3 times.

Doctor Nguyen Thi Quoc Hien, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Gang Thep Hospital, said: Pharmacist Hoang Vu Phong not only actively completed his professional tasks but also enthusiastically participated in the activities of the Hospital, especially voluntary blood donation. Examples like pharmacist Phong have contributed to spreading the progressive model and enthusiasm for voluntary blood donation among all cadres, civil servants and workers. For many years, cadres and youth union members of the Hospital have actively participated in blood donation programs launched by the Thai Nguyen City Youth Union and the health sector. In the first 6 months of the year alone, 30 cadres and union members participated in blood donation.

As a staff working in the health sector, witnessing patients fighting for their lives every day, many in difficult circumstances, pharmacist Phong is always ready to donate blood when Thai Nguyen Hospital and Health Sector launch a campaign. He said: Donating blood is not harmful to health but also saves lives. Therefore, I see no reason to refuse to share drops of red blood with patients lying on the emergency table, or those with congenital hemolytic disease...
