The number of candidates registering for admission in 2025 increased by 115,892 candidates compared to the previous year due to the number of candidates registering for admission to vocational colleges (194 schools).
According to education experts, at this time, if candidates want to change their wishes, they can still choose to apply directly at colleges to increase their chances of admission.
Do businesses prefer to hire college or university graduates?
Intern early, "catch" job opportunities right away
Right from her first year, Minh Nguyet (living in Dong Thanh commune, Ho Chi Minh City) started her internship at a hotel in the city center. In 2023, Nguyet failed the university entrance exam so she went to college, but only now does she feel quite satisfied with her choice.
"In every misfortune there is a blessing, thanks to studying at college, I had the opportunity to experience and practice earlier. During my internship, I was officially hired by the manager with a starting salary of 9 million VND/month, not including allowances" - Minh Nguyet boasted.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Tho - Director of the Consulting and Admissions Center, Saigon Tourism Technical College - said that the biggest advantage of studying at college is the large amount of practice time (accounting for 70% of the training program), followed by saving time and tuition fees.
"Instead of studying theory in the classroom, students have to come into contact with reality right from their first year. Early internships and fieldwork are both a challenge and an opportunity for students," said Mr. Tho.
Training programs closely meet the recruitment needs of businesses, increasing job opportunities for students.
According to Mr. Tho, the service and tourism industries have great job opportunities, and many businesses lacking labor constantly "place orders" with the school. However, to catch the eye of businesses, students need to proactively equip themselves with communication skills, language skills, and teamwork skills.
"For the hotel industry, the school supports students to do internships at major hotels in Ho Chi Minh City such as De Nhat, Rex, Caravelle... At the same time, it ensures job opportunities for students with a basic salary of 8-10 million/month (depending on ability)" - Mr. Tho emphasized.
Language industry "reigns"
Dr. Le Si Hai, Principal of Binh Minh Saigon College, added that in recent years, the language group has "reigned" because of diverse job opportunities, students can work at international corporations in Vietnam.
At Binh Minh Saigon College, graduates can transfer to Van Hien University with preferential tuition fees.
"The two hottest language majors today are Chinese and Japanese. Of these, Chinese has more advantages and job opportunities, especially in the tourism and trade sectors," said Dr. Hai.
With the Chinese language major, students can work as interpreters and translators at Chinese companies, Singapore companies or Vietnamese businesses trading with China; international tour guides; trade - import and export (supporting negotiations, drafting contracts, processing orders); teaching Chinese...
With the Japanese language major, graduates can work as interpreters and translators for Japanese companies, especially in industrial zones; engineers and technicians in Japan; IT and technology industry (there is a huge demand for programmers who know Japanese); labor export and trainees, with both high income and the ability to settle down...
"Japan is investing heavily in Vietnam, the demand for Japanese-speaking personnel is not enough to supply the labor market. However, Japanese is very difficult to learn, so the ability to compete is low, if students study well, they will be very "valuable" - Dr. Hai emphasized.
