Lam Dong students won Silver Medal at Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad

(LĐ online) - The pride of Lam Dong's education sector, Dang Huy Hau - a 10th grade IT student at Thang Long High School for the Gifted, Da Lat, has just won a Silver Medal at the 19th Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO).

This achievement not only affirms Hau's individual talent but also contributes significantly to the total of 6 medals of the Vietnamese team, helping Vietnam rise to 5th place overall.

This year's APIO competition, hosted by Uzbekistan, took place from May 17 to 18, bringing together 42 delegations from countries and territories, with a total of 868 candidates. The Vietnamese team, with 15 students, competed online at the University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi .

According to the regulations of the organizing committee, the 6 students with the highest scores were selected for the award. Notably, this is not the first time Dang Huy Hau has achieved success. A few months ago, he was also the champion of the National Excellent Student Competition in Information Technology, demonstrating Hau's perseverance and outstanding ability in the field of information technology.

* Impressive results of Vietnam Team

The Vietnam Informatics Olympiad team had an impressive competition with a total of 1 Gold Medal, 2 Silver Medals and 3 Bronze Medals.

The only Gold Medal belonged to Nguyen Bui Duc Dung - 11th grade student of High School for Gifted Students in Natural Sciences , Hanoi National University, with 236/300 points and two perfect scores in his exams.

The remaining two Silver Medals were awarded to Le Kien Thanh - Grade 12 student of Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted (Binh Dinh) and Dang Huy Hau (Lam Dong).

The Ministry of Education and Training especially praised Dang Huy Hau for his "very unique solution" and achieving full score in exercise 3 with only 4 lines of code, which greatly surprised the judges.

Three Bronze Medals went to Ninh Quang Thang (grade 12, Ha Long High School for the Gifted, Quang Ninh), Nguyen Huy Phong (grade 11, Lao Cai High School for the Gifted, Lao Cai) and Nguyen Xuan Chi Thanh (grade 11, Natural Science High School for the Gifted).

With these outstanding achievements, the Vietnam Informatics Olympiad team has risen to 5th place, just behind leading technology countries such as China, Russia, Japan and South Korea. This result is even better than last year, when Vietnam ranked 6th out of 36 overall.

* Creative test and vision of Vietnamese students' capacity

This year's APIO exam is highly appreciated for its creativity, with each test having many flexible approaches, requiring candidates to have logical thinking and quick problem-solving ability.

The Ministry of Education and Training commented: "This result, along with many years of achievements in international and regional Informatics Olympiads, shows that Vietnamese students have the talent and thinking in computer science on par with top students in the region."

This is a clear demonstration of the development potential of the country's information technology industry through the talented young generation.

There is one thing to be proud of, throughout the development of Lam Dong's education sector, Dang Huy Hau is the second student from Lam Dong to be selected into the Olympic Team of the Ministry of Education and Training to participate in international and regional Olympic competitions.

According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan - Teacher of Thang Long High School for the Gifted: Previously, in 2018, student Duong Quoc Hung, majoring in IT at Thang Long High School for the Gifted (also guided by teacher Nguyen Ngoc Tuan - PV) was the first student to enter the Olympic Team of the Ministry of Education and Training and won a Bronze Medal at the Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad.
