Quang Nam Hoi An tonight received a certificate recognizing the Mid-Autumn Festival as a national intangible cultural heritage in a ceremony taking place in the old town.
Mr. Nguyen Van Lanh, Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee, said that although the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recognized the Mid-Autumn Festival as a heritage right after the Lunar New Year, the city decided to postpone the time and prepare best to receive this title right on the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Mid-Autumn Festival in Hoi An is a traditional festival, social custom and belief formed on the basis of indigenous cultural traditions, ethnic culture, with cultural exchange and acculturation with China and Japan in the process of formation and development of the urban - commercial port of Hoi An.
Mr. Tran Anh Tuan, Vice Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee, said that Hoi An Mid-Autumn Festival being included in the list of national intangible cultural heritages has added to the list of heritages of Quang Nam, and is a great opportunity for Quang Nam to continue to exploit and promote cultural and tourism values.
According to Mr. Tuan, Hoi An's efforts to be recognized as such are the efforts of the entire ancient town community in preserving and maintaining the unique characteristics of the locality. "The more honored and happy we are, the more responsibility we have to preserve and promote it," he said.
The Vice Chairman of Quang Nam suggested that the Hoi An ancient town community further promote propaganda so that every local and domestic and foreign tourist coming to the ancient town knows that Mid-Autumn Festival is a cultural feature that has a great influence on the spiritual life of Hoi An people.

The cultural and historical values of Hoi An Mid-Autumn Festival are partly recreated through a heritage procession with lion, unicorn, lion, dragon and lantern dance troupes through the streets of Tran Phu, Bach Dang, Le Loi, Phan Chau Trinh and Tran Hung Dao.
When the procession arrived at Hoi An Park, the Tran Vo Palace Dance Team performed the Hoi An Thien Cau Dance - a long-standing folk performance that has developed strongly since the early 20th century. Thien Cau (heavenly dog) is the traditional mascot of Hoi An.

Previously, on February 5, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism awarded the certificate of the Lantern Festival in Hoi An as a national intangible cultural heritage. This is one of the important and long-standing festivals of the Hoi An community.
To date, Hoi An has 6 intangible cultural heritages. In addition to the Lantern Festival and the Mid-Autumn Festival, the city also has 4 other heritages including Kim Bong carpentry, Thanh Chau bird nest exploitation, Thanh Ha pottery and Tra Que vegetable growing.
