At the meeting on April 4, Mr. James Shipton informed the city leaders about the cooperation programs and projects of the British Council, as well as the British Embassy in Can Tho city, focusing on three main areas: culture and arts, education and English teaching.

Mr. James Shipton also shared about the meaningful cooperation projects between the British Council, Can Tho University and many other universities in the Mekong Delta region with partners from the UK. These projects mainly focus on research and development of rice varieties, training on climate change knowledge through foreign languages and building smart city models...
In addition, the Director of the British Council in Vietnam also shared more about the implementation of the project “Climate Skills – Seeds for Green Transformation” in Can Tho. He emphasized that the activities within the framework of the project will help equip young people with practical knowledge about climate change mitigation and adaptation. At the same time, the project also creates opportunities to connect Can Tho youth with young people around the world, working together to address climate challenges and move towards sustainable development.

Mr. James Shipton highly appreciated the efforts of Can Tho city in developing education. He hoped that the two sides would strengthen cooperation in improving the quality of English teaching, especially developing English as a second language in schools in Can Tho city.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice Chairwoman of the City People's Committee, thanked the British Council in Vietnam for supporting, connecting, and arranging a meeting between the city leaders and the British Council in London during her business trip to the UK last June.
After this trip, the city coordinated with the British Council in Vietnam and the Institute of Climate Change Research of Can Tho University to implement a program to improve climate change response skills for young people in the Mekong Delta region.
Specifically, the Department of Foreign Affairs has coordinated with the O Mon District Youth Union to implement training courses for core staff within the framework of the project “Climate Skills - Seeds for Green Transformation”. The activities have helped Can Tho youth gain more knowledge and appropriate skills related to climate change, thereby spreading messages about environmental protection to young people.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep expressed her hope that the British Council in Vietnam will continue to support the city in implementing the project "Climate Skills - Seeds for Green Transformation". At the same time, she will study sending English teaching volunteers to support teachers, students and pupils at schools; open online English training courses for the city's staff and civil servants; coordinate the implementation of teacher exchange programs between the two sides...
Can Tho City leaders believe that in the coming time, there will be many opportunities for cooperation between the two sides, especially in the fields of education, climate change, English teaching, etc.
