(Haiphong.gov.vn) - On the afternoon of December 15 , in Quang Ninh province, Chairman of the People's Committee of the city Nguyen Van Tung, Vice Chairman of the Eastern Expressway Economic Connection Council attended the Conference to summarize the activities of the Eastern Expressway Economic Connection Council in 2023 and deploy the plan for 2024. The conference was organized by the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry - VCCI in coordination with Quang Ninh province with the participation of leaders of 4 provinces and cities: Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Hai Duong , Hung Yen.

In 2023, the growth rate of gross regional domestic product in the four localities in the Eastern Expressway Economic Connection - VEHEC is estimated to increase by over 8% over the same period last year. This year's gross regional domestic product (GRDP) of the provinces and cities including Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Hai Duong, Hung Yen is 10.34%, 11.02%, 8.16% and 10.05% respectively. Quang Ninh is the locality with the highest GRDP growth in the Red River Delta and ranks 3rd in the country. Hai Phong city has the second highest GRDP growth rate in the Red River Delta region and ranks 5th in the country.

Economic figures for 2023 show that the economic picture of localities in the VEHEC Connection is gradually improving with many indicators showing more positive results than the national average. Localities in the region, especially Hai Phong and Quang Ninh, have high growth rates in the fields of industrial development, services and investment attraction. Hai Phong attracted about 3.5 billion USD of FDI capital, Quang Ninh attracted over 3.1 billion USD of FDI capital in the past year, making the two localities leading the country in attracting foreign direct investment in 2023.

The Eastern Expressway Economic Connection Agreement (VEHEC) has been implemented since July 2022 with the consensus of four localities and the coordination of the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).
