On the afternoon of July 9, Ms. Truong Thi Hong Hanh - Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang City chaired a conference with localities and the Hoi An World Cultural Heritage Conservation Center on the work of preserving and promoting the value of cultural heritage and tourism development activities in Hoi An, Hoi An Dong and Hoi An Tay wards (Da Nang City).
Within the framework of the program, leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang city, Heads of specialized departments of the Department, leaders of the city's Tourism Promotion Center had a field survey at Hoi An Ancient Town (Hoi An ward), Bay Mau Coconut Forest (Hoi An Dong ward) and had discussions to continue promoting the effectiveness of previously implemented activities; shared difficulties and problems and proposed solutions to effectively implement key tasks in the new period.
After the survey, the delegation had a working session on the conservation and promotion of cultural heritage values and tourism development in Hoi An, Hoi An Dong and Hoi An Tay wards.
At the meeting, representatives of the Hoi An World Heritage Conservation Center (merged from two units, the Hoi An Culture- Sports and Radio-Television Center and the former Hoi An World Heritage Conservation Center) reported on outstanding achievements in the management, conservation and promotion of the values of Hoi An's cultural heritage in general and the world cultural heritage of Hoi An Ancient Town in particular in recent times.
Especially in the fields of scientific research; management, restoration of relics and restoration of intangible cultural heritage values; museums, communication and connection of heritage with the community; foreign affairs and international cooperation; tourist guides; cooperation in organizing cultural and tourism events;...
At the same time, sharing the risks and challenges for the heritage site and the difficulties and obstacles affecting the results of the work of preserving and promoting the values of the World Cultural Heritage of Hoi An Ancient Town in the current period requires attention and direction from superiors and coordination among relevant parties.
Leaders of the People's Committees of Hoi An, Hoi An Dong and Hoi An Tay wards also reported on the results of management, promotion of relics, traditional craft villages and tourism development in the wards. At the same time, they proposed a number of recommendations on coordination in implementing tasks and related financial mechanisms.
After the arrangement, the former Hoi An city now includes 3 wards: Hoi An, Hoi An Tay, Hoi An Dong and 1 island commune of Tan Hiep, belonging to Da Nang city.
In Hoi An Ancient Town, there are currently 1,143 relics, mainly in the old town, of which 1,130 are architectural and artistic relics, 9 of which are ranked at the national level and 13 of which are ranked at the provincial level. With more than 80% of the relics being privately and collectively owned.
In recent times, the locality has promoted the value of cultural heritage associated with tourism development and achieved many outstanding results, creating tourism products in the old quarter such as: Walking street, street without engine noise, old town night, traditional art performances, bai choi, Japanese cultural space... which are increasingly invested in to enrich the contemporary value of the heritage.
Destinations with ecological characteristics and craft villages are focused on completion, contributing to creating the unique features of Hoi An tourism, bringing practical benefits to the community. Tourism associated with heritage conservation is invested in long-term, increasing the connecting role, creating the spread of Hoi An tourism to neighboring localities.
Hoi An has become an impressive, national image for international friends. The attraction of heritage has helped increase the number of tourists to Hoi An, an ideal destination, voted by many prestigious websites and magazines in the world; becoming an attractive address for research and finding opportunities for investors.
Ms. Truong Thi Hong Hanh - Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang city highly appreciated the efforts and achievements of the Center and localities in the work of preserving and promoting the values of Hoi An World Cultural Heritage and developing local tourism in recent times.
On behalf of the leaders of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang, Ms. Hanh also shared about the urgent tasks in the coming time, as well as the key long-term tasks for the heritage site to better and more sustainably preserve and promote the values of the UNESCO-recognized heritage in the new context.
