Nghe An Elderly Association evaluates the activities of Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs

That is the goal identified at the Conference to summarize the Project to expand the Intergenerational Self-Help Club organized by the Association of the Elderly of Nghe An province.

On the afternoon of June 5, the Nghe An Provincial Association of the Elderly held a conference to review the Project to expand the Intergenerational Self-Help Club (Project 1336) and to review the Association's work in the first 6 months of 2025.

Attending the conference were comrades: Tran Thi Thu Huong - Vice Chairman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee; Nguyen Huu Le - Deputy Director of the Department of Health ; representatives of provincial departments, branches and sectors; leaders of the Association of the Elderly of districts, cities and towns.

Implementing the direction of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee, on June 1, 2022, the Provincial People's Committee approved and issued Plan No. 345/KH-UBND on replicating the model of Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs in Nghe An province.

After having Plan No. 345/KH - UBND of the Provincial People's Committee, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Association of the Elderly issued a directive document, specifying the annual targets assigned to the Association of the Elderly in districts, cities and towns on establishing Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs.

As a result, the total number of Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs established in the implementation of Project 1336 is 293. The activities of the Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs have truly supported and helped the elderly improve their quality of life both materially and spiritually. The clubs have mobilized resources from members and benefactors, or provided loans and borrowings without interest, and have built a Fund to increase income of nearly 21 billion VND.

The results of the activities of the Intergenerational Self-Help Club have helped the elderly in general, especially the elderly in poor, near-poor and disadvantaged households, to gradually improve their lives, actively contributing to the local hunger eradication and poverty reduction, which has been recognized and highly appreciated by Party committees and authorities at all levels.

However, the replication of the Intergenerational Self-Help Club model still faces some difficulties and limitations such as: The province does not have a mechanism to support initial funding to encourage the establishment of a Fund to increase club income, so it is difficult to mobilize the establishment of clubs. Some mountainous districts have large villages and hamlets, and households are not concentrated, so the establishment of clubs is very difficult...

On that basis, the conference determined the goals for the coming time as follows: Continue to consolidate and improve the quality of activities of established Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs, ensuring practical, effective and sustainable activities. Replicating the model, increasing the coverage of the Intergenerational Self-Help Club network, in conjunction with the National Strategy on the Elderly, adapting to population aging.

Speaking at the Conference, Comrade Tran Thi Thu Huong - Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial Fatherland Front Committee acknowledged the results achieved in implementing Project 1336, contributing to socio-economic development. At the same time, she requested the Provincial Association of the Elderly to continue to replicate the model of Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs, even after the time of implementing the policy of merging wards and communes.

On this occasion, the Provincial Association of the Elderly organized a preliminary review of the first 6 months of 2025, evaluating the results of the Association's work in the following aspects: Association organization building; elderly health care; promoting the role of the elderly; shortcomings and limitations. At the same time, identifying key tasks for the last 6 months of 2025.

Also on this occasion, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly awarded Certificates of Merit to 2 groups and 3 individuals; the Provincial People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to 2 groups and 3 individuals; the Provincial Association of the Elderly awarded Certificates of Merit to 17 groups and 26 individuals.
