On November 14th, in Hai Phong city, the Vietnam Ophthalmology Conference 2025 officially opened, marking 65 years of formation and development of the Vietnam Ophthalmology Association.

Attending the conference were Dr. Vu Manh Ha, Alternate Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Permanent Deputy Minister of Health ; Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hai Phong City Nguyen Minh Hung; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Xuyen, President of the Vietnam Medical Association; People's Physician Prof. Dr. Ton Thi Kim Thanh, President of the Vietnam Ophthalmology Association; along with representatives from the leadership of units under the Ministry of Health , the Hai Phong Health sector; the Vietnam Ophthalmology Association, and experts from Vietnam and abroad.

Dr. Vu Manh Ha, Permanent Deputy Minister of Health, delivered a speech at the conference.

Speaking at the conference, Dr. Vu Manh Ha, Permanent Deputy Minister of Health, emphasized: “The Vietnamese health sector is embracing the era of national progress, with a spirit of innovation, creativity, and the promotion of the application of science and technology in all areas of healthcare. In this context, ophthalmology is one of the pioneering specialties, capable of extensively applying modern technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), computer-based training and learning, remote consultation, and big data in diagnosis, treatment, and patient management. The Ministry of Health highly appreciates the role of the Vietnam Ophthalmological Society in pioneering the application of technology to professional practice and training high-quality human resources for the sector.”

The Vietnam Ophthalmology Conference is the largest annual scientific forum of the Vietnamese ophthalmology sector, attracting the participation of experts, scientists, and ophthalmologists from both within and outside the country to exchange, share, and publish the latest research achievements and applications in the field of ophthalmology.

In 2025, the conference will welcome nearly 3000 delegates, including doctors, surgeons, technicians, and nurses in the ophthalmology field from 34 provinces and cities nationwide. In addition, there will be participation from international experts, representatives of ophthalmology organizations, and non-governmental organizations from the United States, Singapore, Thailand, China, India, Sweden, Japan, and other countries.

The Vietnam Medical Association awarded a certificate of merit to the Vietnam Ophthalmology Association and also presented certificates of merit to 11 collectives and 20 individuals.

The conference focused on research, application, and development of science and technology in ophthalmology with 32 presentations divided into 16 main topics, including: Refractive surgery & artificial lenses; Cornea; Vitreous-retinal; Eye trauma; Cosmetic surgery; Ophthalmic refraction; Pediatric ophthalmology; Glaucoma; Neuro-ophthalmology; Ophthalmic paraclinical services; Typical clinical cases; Young doctors' forum; Ophthalmic nursing; Hospital management...

The conference organized advanced training courses for doctors, technicians, and nurses on eight topics: Controlling the progression of myopia in children; Phaco surgery techniques for IOL implantation; Pediatric ophthalmology; Glaucoma diagnosis; Basic ultrasound in ophthalmology; Pupil reflex examination and clinical applications; and Intravitreal injection.

The conference included two thematic discussion sessions on "National Eye Care Strategy towards the In Sight 2030 Goal in Vietnam," with the participation of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) and NGOs.

Alongside the scientific activities, the conference also features an exhibition showcasing modern ophthalmic drugs and equipment from domestic and international pharmaceutical and medical equipment corporations.

At the conference, Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong City People's Committee Nguyen Minh Hung urged organizations and individuals to pay attention to, research, and invest in the healthcare sector in general, and ophthalmology in particular. The city will create the most favorable conditions for organizations, businesses, and domestic and foreign experts to invest in building and expanding the network of medical examination and treatment facilities, especially high-quality medical facilities, geriatric hospitals, and centers for the elderly. New investment projects will contribute to making Hai Phong an advanced and modern medical center of the country and the region, including the ophthalmology specialty, to realize the Party and State's policy of implementing breakthrough solutions to strengthen healthcare, protection, and improvement of people's health.

The Vietnam Medical Association awarded a certificate of merit to the Vietnam Ophthalmology Association and presented certificates of merit to 11 collectives and 20 individuals for their outstanding achievements in the prevention of blindness and the protection of people's eyesight.

Over 65 years of development, the Vietnam Ophthalmological Society has achieved many accomplishments: scientific research, microsurgical techniques, corneal transplantation, Phaco surgery, laser retinal treatment, and the application of AI in early diagnosis of eye diseases, bringing the specialty closer to international standards.
