On November 14, in Hai Phong city, the Vietnam Ophthalmology Conference 2025 officially opened, marking 65 years of establishment and development of the Vietnam Ophthalmological Association.

Attending the Conference were Dr. Vu Manh Ha, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Minister of Health ; Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Minh Hung, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Xuyen, President of the Vietnam Medical Association, People's Physician Prof. Dr. Ton Thi Kim Thanh, President of the Vietnam Ophthalmology Association; and representatives of leaders of units under the Ministry of Health , Hai Phong Health sector; Vietnam Ophthalmology Association, domestic and foreign experts.

Speaking at the Conference, Dr. Vu Manh Ha - Permanent Deputy Minister of Health emphasized: "The Vietnamese health sector is integrating into the era of national development, with the spirit of innovation, creativity and promoting the application of science and technology in all areas of health care. In that flow, ophthalmology is one of the pioneering specialties, capable of widely applying modern technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), training, machine learning, remote consultation and big data in diagnosis, treatment and patient management. The Ministry of Health highly appreciates the role of the Vietnam Ophthalmological Association in pioneering the application of technology in the profession and training high-quality human resources for the industry".
The Vietnam Ophthalmology Conference is the largest annual scientific forum of the Vietnamese Ophthalmology industry, attracting the participation of experts, scientists, and ophthalmologists at home and abroad to exchange, share, and announce the latest research and application achievements in the field of ophthalmology.
In 2025, the Conference will welcome nearly 3,000 delegates, including doctors, surgeons, technicians, and ophthalmology nurses from 34 provinces and cities nationwide. In addition, there will be the participation of international experts, representatives of ophthalmology organizations, and non-governmental organizations from the United States, Singapore, Thailand, China, India, Sweden, Japan, etc.

The Vietnam Medical Association awarded certificates of merit to the Vietnam Ophthalmology Association and certificates of merit to 11 groups and 20 individuals.
The conference focused on research, application and development of science and technology in ophthalmology with 32 reporting sessions divided into 16 main topics, including: Refractive surgery & artificial lens; Cornea; Vitreous - retina; Eye trauma; Cosmetic surgery; Refractive ophthalmology; Children's eyes; Glaucoma; Neuro-ophthalmology; Paraclinical in ophthalmology; Typical clinical cases; Young doctors' forum; Ophthalmological nursing; Hospital management...
The conference organized training courses to update specialized knowledge for doctors, technicians, and nurses on 8 topics: Controlling myopia progression in children; Phaco surgery techniques for IOL placement; Children's eyes; Glaucoma diagnosis; Basic ultrasound in ophthalmology; Pupillary reflex examination and clinical applications; Intraocular injection.
The conference had two thematic discussion sessions on “National eye care strategy towards In Sight 2030 in Vietnam”, with the participation of the International Association for the Prevention of Blindness IAPB and NGOs.
Along with scientific activities, the Conference also has an exhibition displaying treatment drugs and modern ophthalmic equipment from domestic and foreign pharmaceutical and medical equipment corporations.
At the Conference, Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee Nguyen Minh Hung requested organizations and individuals to pay attention to, research and invest in the health sector in general and the field of ophthalmology in particular. The city will create the most favorable conditions for domestic and foreign organizations, businesses and experts to invest in building and expanding the network of medical examination and treatment facilities, especially high-quality medical facilities, geriatric hospitals, nursing homes and care centers for the elderly. New investment projects will contribute to making Hai Phong an advanced and modern medical center of the country and the region, including ophthalmology to realize the Party and State's policy in implementing a number of breakthrough solutions, enhancing care, protecting and improving people's health.
The Vietnam Medical Association awarded certificates of merit to the Vietnam Ophthalmology Association and to 11 groups and 20 individuals with outstanding achievements in preventing blindness and protecting people's eyes.
Over 65 years of development, the Vietnam Ophthalmological Association has achieved many achievements: scientific research, microsurgery techniques, corneal transplants, Phaco surgery, laser retinal treatment and AI application in early diagnosis of eye diseases, bringing the profession closer to international standards.
