Workshop to share information on tobacco harm prevention activities

(PLVN) - In order to promote the implementation of Resolution No. 173/2024/QH15 of the National Assembly on banning the production, trading, import, transportation, and use of electronic cigarettes and heated tobacco products and implementing effective policies in tobacco harm prevention and control activities, the Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund (Ministry of Health) will organize a workshop to share information on tobacco harm prevention and control activities tomorrow, May 8, at La Thanh Hotel, Hanoi.

This is an opportunity for policy makers, health experts, media organizations and stakeholders to review the achievements in tobacco harm prevention and control in recent times, and at the same time exchange and share effective models and propose solutions suitable to the current context.

The event attracted the attention of many management agencies, media organizations and medical experts in the country.

The workshop is expected to have the participation of representatives from a number of ministries and branches such as: Department of Students (Ministry of Education and Training), Central Office of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union , Economic - Social Committee, Vietnam Women's Union; Units under the Ministry of Health such as: Department of Legislation; Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management; Central Center for Health Education and Communication; Department of Disease Prevention; Ministry Office (communication department); University of Public Health; University of Commerce; Organizations that prevent and combat the harmful effects of tobacco such as: World Health Organization; Global Public Health Organization; Campaign for Tobacco-Free Children; HealthBridge Canada in Vietnam; and press and television agencies.

Previously, on November 30, 2024, the National Assembly passed Resolution 173/2024/QH15 of the National Assembly on questioning activities at the 8th Session of the 15th National Assembly.

Resolution 173/2024/QH15 clearly states that the National Assembly agrees to ban the production, trading, import, storage, transportation, and use of e-cigarettes, heated tobacco products, gases, and addictive substances that are harmful to human health from 2025, ensuring public health, social order and safety; assigning the Government to organize specific implementation. Along with that, promote propaganda work, raise awareness among people, especially young people and teenagers, about the harmful effects of alcohol, beer, cigarettes, e-cigarettes, heated tobacco products, gases, and addictive substances that are harmful to human health.
