The Times Of Israel quoted information from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) on July 21 saying that the recent outbreak of violence in southern Syria had killed more than 1,260 people, before the ceasefire was reached.
Those killed in fighting in Syria’s Sweida province included 505 Druze fighters and 298 Druze civilians, 408 Syrian security forces and 35 Bedouins. Another 15 soldiers were killed in Israeli airstrikes.

Violence in Sweida broke out between Bedouin militiamen and the Druze community on July 13. The Syrian interim government then deployed security forces to Sweida to stabilize the situation.
However, Israel opposed the Syrian government's military deployment, continuously conducting fierce airstrikes on the capital Damascus and Sweida province.
The Syrian army said it had begun withdrawing from the city of Sweida on the evening of July 16 after agreeing to a new ceasefire aimed at ending fighting there.
According to the text of the new ceasefire agreement released by the Syrian Interior Ministry , there will be an “immediate and complete ceasefire in all military operations,” as well as the establishment of a committee of government officials and Druze spiritual leaders to oversee the implementation of the agreement. But violence has continued since then.
