The program to raise awareness about classifying, collecting and recycling plastic waste at schools has covered 3 schools: Cao Van Ngoc Primary School (Facility 1 and Facility 2), Le Hong Phong Secondary School and Vo Thi Sau High School, attracting the active participation of more than 2,000 students and 90 teachers.
A series of awareness-raising events at schools were implemented with 03 attractive activities: "Green lessons"; "Experiential activities, plastic waste recycling" and "Exchanging waste for gifts".
With enthusiastic response from students, the "Green Lesson" training sessions took place in a lively atmosphere. Through the lessons, students were provided with knowledge about the current state of plastic waste in the world and locally.
The students were instructed on how to identify and use plastic products to ensure their health and to collect and recycle them more properly. With the guidance of the teachers, the "Green Lesson" was impressive and effective.
Program representatives and teachers shared many creative ideas, helping students not only access knowledge about waste classification, but also contribute to protecting the environment of Con Dao.
After the "Green Lesson", students have developed the habit of sorting waste at the source and protecting the environment, through sharing actions that should and should not be done to preserve a greener and more beautiful environment.
"Experiential activities, recycling plastic waste" received special attention and excitement from students at 04 schools.
Here, children are instructed on the plastic waste recycling process at the factory and experience recycling flower pots from the plastic waste classified in the program.
With the opportunity to explore modern recycling processes and practice recycling on-site, children have a better understanding of the life cycle of plastic waste and the importance of waste classification right at home.
In addition, students are instructed to classify waste at home and bring it to the program to exchange for unique recycled gifts from Vietnam Airlines such as plant pots, school supplies, etc.

At the end of the program, 470kg of recyclable waste including plastic, aluminum and milk cartons were classified and collected according to the correct process.
All recycled waste will be brought to the mainland for processing and "regeneration" into products such as flower pots, tables and chairs to give back to Con Dao people in the following activities.
Thus, after phase 1, the "Fly Lightly to Con Dao" campaign has collected a total of 891kg of recyclable waste. On the morning of October 13, the Organizing Committee completed the packaging and transportation of waste to the mainland for processing. The campaign's goal is to reduce 1.5-2 tons of plastic waste in Con Dao in 2024.
The "Fly Lightly to Con Dao" campaign is implemented by Vietnam Airlines, VASCO, Lagom Vietnam and the People's Committee of Con Dao District, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions, enhance waste collection, treatment and recycling programs. The program aims to treat 85% of plastic waste by 2025; at the same time, it aims to develop sustainable aviation - tourism and economic transformation towards circularity in Con Dao.
