Up to now, the whole Dak Nong province has 18 reservoirs managed by Dak Nong Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Limited Liability Company, depleting water resources, affecting about 3,304 hectares of crops.
Dak Nong currently has a total of 310 irrigation works managed by Dak Nong Irrigation Works Exploitation One Member Limited Liability Company, including 256 reservoirs, 33 dams, 8 drainage canal systems, 11 pumping station systems and 2 other irrigation works.
The total designed capacity of 256 reservoirs is about 182 million m3, the total open surface area of reservoirs in the province is about 3,700 ha. Currently, the total water capacity of lakes and dams has decreased to about 87 million m3, estimated at about 49% of the designed capacity.
Specifically, Cu Jut district 20.66%, Krong No district 49.12%, Dak Mil district 30.67%, Dak Song district 55.28%, Gia Nghia city 76.91%, Dak Glong district 56.82%, Dak R'lap district 51.90% and Tuy Duc district 44.86%.
To minimize the damage caused by drought, the province has implemented many solutions such as regulating and supplementing water sources; installing field pumps; taking advantage of remaining water sources in depleted reservoirs to serve production, but still cannot cope with drought.
According to forecasts, if the weather is not favorable, by the end of April this year, 20 irrigation works in the province will be exhausted and run out of water. Of these, 13 works have drought-resistant measures, the remaining works do not have drought-resistant measures.
Currently, the water level and flow of rivers and streams in the province continue to fluctuate in a downward trend, especially in the northern part of the province where water sources in many small streams in the area have been depleted for many months.
According to the assessment of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dak Nong, the current irrigation works only meet about 27% of the agricultural land area of the whole province, the rest depends on other water sources. Some localities such as Dak Mil, Cu Jut, Krong No are affected by drought every year.
To overcome the drought situation in the area, the Department of Agriculture and Environment proposed that the Central Government invest in upgrading and repairing 37 irrigation works for about 8,200 hectares of crops, and building 57 new irrigation works for 12,700 hectares of crops, with a total cost of about 2,137 billion VND.
