On the morning of June 27, the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Dak Nong province held a conference to review 10 years of implementing Directive No. 43-CT/TW dated May 14, 2015 of the Central Party Secretariat (11th tenure) "On strengthening the Party's leadership in resolving the consequences of toxic chemicals used by the US during the war in Vietnam".

According to statistics, the whole province currently has more than 3,900 cases of resistance fighters, people and their descendants affected by Agent Orange/dioxin. Of these, 1,958 people have been assessed as being exposed to toxic chemicals, including: 1,221 people directly involved in the resistance and 628 indirect cases of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Currently, 1,341 victims are enjoying policies according to regulations.

Conference overview

After 10 years of implementing Directive 43-CT/TW, the awareness and responsibility of Party committees, authorities, the Fatherland Front, socio- political organizations and people in Dak Nong province have had many positive changes.

The leadership and direction of the activities of the Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin have been given regular and consistent attention. Many timely guidance and direction documents have been issued, demonstrating the determination of the entire political system in overcoming the consequences of toxic chemicals left behind after the war.

Since its establishment on October 21, 2005 under Decision No. 1576/QD-UBND of the Provincial People's Committee, the Dak Nong Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin has actively mobilized resources to contribute to the Party and State in caring for and supporting victims.

According to statistics, the whole province currently has more than 3,900 cases of participating in the resistance war, people and descendants affected by Agent Orange/dioxin.

From 2015 to present, the total value of mobilized resources has reached 33.46 billion VND to support and care for victims affected by Agent Orange/dioxin.

Mobilized resources are used effectively and on target through various and practical forms of support such as: repairing and building charity houses; granting scholarships to children and grandchildren of victims; supporting interest-free economic capital; supporting medical examination and treatment, providing medicine; giving gifts on holidays, Tet, and the Day "For Vietnamese Agent Orange Victims" (August 10); providing wheelchairs and rocking chairs for those with mobility difficulties.

From 2016 to present, 9 victim households have been supported with production loans (10 million VND per household, 5-year term, no interest). At the same time, 25 children and grandchildren of victims have received “Seeds of Hope” scholarships, each worth 18 million VND. 100% of victims have been granted health insurance cards, regular medical examinations, and treatment at medical facilities in the province.

On this occasion, the Central Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin, the People's Committee of Dak Nong province, and the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin of Dak Nong province presented commemorative medals, certificates of merit, and certificates of merit to collectives and individuals with many outstanding achievements in the implementation of Directive No. 43-CT/TW of the Central Party Secretariat, actively contributing to the work of overcoming the consequences of toxic chemicals and caring for the lives of victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in the province.
