During a friendly meeting at the Ho Chi Minh City Theater Association, director Nguyen Thu (Giai Phong Film Studio) officially started making a documentary about the late writer - author Ngoc Linh - a special writer who left a deep mark in both the literary world and the Southern theater and reformed opera scene for more than half a century.
The film was made from a script by Meritorious Artist Nguyen Mong Long - son of the late composer Quy Sac, who wrote the famous folk song "The Paper Lantern Seller". The fact that an artist who grew up in a traditional theater environment and has a solid literary background like Meritorious Artist Nguyen Mong Long wrote the script for the film is a clear aesthetic commitment: the film is not just a documentary, but a serious work of artistic creation.
According to journalist Duong Thi Lien Chi - daughter of the late writer - author Ngoc Linh: "My family is very happy that the crew worked very professionally, showing deep affection for my father through this meaningful film."

Writer - author Ngoc Linh, from life to writing
The late People's Artist - Director Huynh Nga once commented: "Ngoc Linh's works are always attractive and long-lasting, sometimes over several decades... his novel writing and stage script writing techniques have reached a fairly high level."
It was this comment that the production crew considered as the guiding spirit for the documentary – a film that is not simply a biography or career summary, but a process of tracing back the creative veins that created the durability of his works.
Writer and author Ngoc Linh entered literature with more than 70 novels, then moved on to journalism, drama and reformed theater – a rare journey in the art world, not only because of her versatility but also because of the consistent quality between genres. The political novels he wrote deeply reflected the current events, while his works such as: Darkness and Light, Our House, House Without Men, House Without Women, Big Family... showed the flexibility in the way he conveyed social messages through folk art forms.

Their stories, memories, and comments not only help to restore the portrait of writer - author Ngoc Linh - the person and the artist - but also suggest a cultural space in which each of his works is a link connected to the era.At the same time, he is also a journalist - leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Stage Newspaper, which has been operating steadily for many decades. He is also one of the few founding members and operators of the Tran Huu Trang Gold Medal Award of the Ho Chi Minh City Stage Association.
People's Artist Hong Van shares about the influence of writer - author Ngoc Linh on the young generation of artists.
People's Artist Thoai Mieu affirmed: "He is a special person who writes novels, writes for newspapers, and then composes stage plays with many big and small awards, from city to national level." As for People's Artist Hong Van, the late writer Ngoc Linh is an "idol" - not in a simple admiration, but because "he has a strong influence on the stage arts in the South and the whole country in general". Those shared words are the affirmation of a life of non-stop writing, non-stop exploration, and never "standing on the sidelines" of current events.
