Meeting to celebrate the 62nd anniversary of Vietnam Population Day

(HGO) – On December 25, the Provincial Steering Committee for Population and Development held a meeting to celebrate the 62nd anniversary of Vietnam Population Day (December 26, 1961 - December 26, 2023); Commending a couple who gave birth to two children, all girls, combined with the Summary of Population - Family Planning Work and the Population Communication Campaign in 2023.

Ms. Ho Thu Anh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Steering Committee for Population and Development, awarded certificates of merit to units achieving first, second and third place in the emulation movement to implement the 2023 campaign.

Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Ho Thu Anh, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Steering Committee for Population and Development, acknowledged, commended and highly appreciated the comprehensive and outstanding results achieved by the population sector in 2023. Ms. Ho Thu Anh suggested: "In the coming time, in addition to the plans, directions and tasks set out by the health sector, the Steering Committees for Population and Development at all levels need to continue to advise local Party committees and authorities to strengthen leadership in organizing and implementing directives, resolutions, plans and programs approved by the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, Provincial People's Committee and Department of Health . Focus on implementing population and development communication activities, focusing on direct communication forms, promoting the effective use of information technology and social networks".

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung, Director of the Department of Health, Deputy Head of the Provincial Steering Committee for Population and Development, awarded certificates of merit to individuals with outstanding achievements in emulation and campaign implementation.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ho Thu Anh directed: Focus on effectively implementing the task of digital transformation of the population database system - family planning in Hau Giang province in the period of 2023 - 2026.
The Department of Health strengthens direction and supervision to improve the quality of mobile service provision during the campaign in the locality. Coordinates the organization of population communication activities and the development and provision of reproductive health care services for female workers. Agencies that are members of the provincial steering committee direct and supervise the vertical sector system at the district and commune levels to strengthen coordination and support the health sector in implementing population targets. The district steering committee directs specialized agencies to coordinate with health centers to proactively overcome difficulties and limitations in 2023, creating a foundation for more effective implementation of the 2024 campaign.

According to the report, in 2023, the province's population will be 203,771 households and 764,402 people, a decrease of 346 households and an increase of 9,558 people compared to 2022. This year, the whole province will have 8,526 newborns, an increase of 1,613 children compared to 2022. Of which, there are 4,402 boys and 4,124 girls, the sex ratio at birth is 107 boys/100 girls. The total fertility rate will reach 1.61 children/woman, an increase of 0.17% over the same period in 2022. By the end of 2023, the rate of prenatal screening will reach 63.7%; newborn screening will reach 79%; pre-marital health check-ups will reach 72.92%; and health check-ups for the elderly will reach 99.06%; Gynecological examination for married women aged 15-49 reached 95.13%;… All exceeded the annual target.

Implementing the 2023 Campaign, the whole province provided infertility prevention advice to 30,948 young men and women in need. Advised 1,488 infertile couples of childbearing age. Propaganda and mobilization of 106,433 young people to get married before the age of 30. Mobilized 10,799 people with families who have not had children or have 1 child to have 2 children before the age of 35. All of the above targets reached 100%.

The campaign provided pre-marital health consultation and examination for 637/637 couples, reaching 100%. Health examination for 114,877/116,286 elderly people, reaching 98.79%, exceeding the assigned target by 5.79%. Prenatal screening for 100% of pregnant women and newborn screening for 100% of children born during the campaign. The rate of elderly people participating in health insurance reached 95.65%, exceeding the assigned target by 2.65%. The whole province has provided gynecological examination for 94.24% of women aged 15-49 who are married, exceeding the assigned target by 19.24%. Implementing the model of having enough 2 children, up to now, 63.29% of couples have given birth or are pregnant out of the total number of couples registered to have enough 2 children,...

On this occasion, 12 collectives and 82 individuals received certificates of merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for their good achievements in emulation and implementation of the 2023 campaign.

Vi Thuy district is the first-ranked unit in the emulation movement to implement this year's campaign, second-ranked is Vi Thanh city and third-ranked is Chau Thanh district.

In addition, the Provincial People's Committee Chairman awarded certificates of merit to 40 exemplary families with two daughters in the province.
