The bridge over Thuan An estuary is permanently built with reinforced concrete and prestressed reinforced concrete, belonging to Group A project, special traffic works. The bridge has a total length of 2.36 km, a width of 20 m, with the main spans being up to 23.5 m wide. In particular, the bridge uses a mixed girder-cable structure (extradosed) for the main spans, with the longest span being 218 m long.
This is a hybrid structure between external prestressed reinforced concrete bridge and diagonal cable bridge, suitable for medium spans from 100 m to 250 m, bringing high technical and economic efficiency. Extradosed girder - cable bridge takes advantage of both the stiffness of the girder and the bearing capacity of the cable, with the cables lifted above the bridge deck, connected to low towers, acting as external prestressed cables but with greater eccentricity.
Thuan An seaport overpass belongs to Hue coastal road project |
The Thuan An estuary bridge is one of the important components of the Hue coastal road project. This is considered the longest sea estuary bridge in the Central region, part of the coastal road project through Hue city. The bridge was started on March 26, 2022.
It is known that the Hue coastal road project has a total length of about 21.8 km. In phase 1, the project will build a 7.785 km section, including Thuan An bridge, with a total investment of VND 2,400 billion, from the central and local budgets. According to the plan, Thuan An bridge will be technically opened to traffic on September 2, 2025 and the entire package will be completed by the end of 2025.
Upon completion, the coastal road will be seamlessly connected to the national coastal road system, contributing to promoting socio-economic development, forming a coastal tourism route along the coast of Hue city, with the route designed to run close to the coast (no more than 1 km, locally no more than 2 km). Thereby creating conditions for the development of coastal urban areas, improving the lives of people in coastal communes and the whole province.

The project aims to enhance regional connectivity, facilitate North-South transport, increase connectivity with seaports, economic zones and key industrial zones along the Central Coast. Enhance disaster prevention, rescue, and protection of property and people's lives during the storm season.
At the same time, a coastal land fund of about 1,500 hectares will be formed for urban development, attracting investors, businesses, and large corporations to implement tourism infrastructure projects, services, resorts, resort tourism, and other socio-economic development projects in Hue city.
