Currently, the whole Huong Hoa district has about 1,300 victims of Agent Orange/dioxin. The work of overcoming the consequences of toxic chemicals and caring for and helping victims of Agent Orange has always been highly regarded by the locality. In recent times, Party committees at all levels, especially at the grassroots level, have innovated their leadership methods and proposed appropriate solutions to strengthen the work of overcoming the consequences of toxic chemicals used by the US during the war in Vietnam.
First of all, regarding propaganda and mobilization work, through many different forms, Huong Hoa district has promoted this work to help people of all walks of life understand the disaster of toxic chemicals used by the US during the war in Vietnam.
Through this work, the aim isto educate and raise awareness and responsibility of the whole society for overcoming the consequences of Agent Orange; care for and help victims of Agent Orange; advise people infected with Agent Orange in implementing population policies. Direct agencies, units, People's Committees of communes and towns to coordinate in implementing documents on resolving policies for people with revolutionary contributions. Thanks to that, people who participated in the resistance war and were infected with toxic chemicals and their children were assessed to meet the conditions to enjoy preferential regimes and policies of the Party and State.
Over the past 10 years, the District People's Committee has coordinated with the District Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee to actively direct relevant agencies, departments and branches to focus on implementing preferential policies for people with revolutionary contributions; pay attention to training and fostering a team of cadres to meet the requirements and tasks of implementing policies in the new situation.
Currently, in the district, there are 302 people eligible for monthly preferential allowances. The work of caring for and helping people exposed to toxic chemicals and victims of Agent Orange/dioxin is carried out with many contents, forms, and diverse organizational models. The socialization movement is increasingly effective and practical, contributing to improving and enhancing the lives of families with people exposed to toxic chemicals and victims of Agent Orange/dioxin.
Every year, on the occasion of Lunar New Year, commemorating the days of War Invalids and Martyrs (July 27), For victims of Agent Orange/dioxin (August 10), International Day of People with Disabilities (December 3), Vietnamese People with Disabilities (April 18), the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the district advises the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee, coordinates with the People's Council and People's Committee of the district to establish a delegation to visit and give gifts to people with meritorious services to the revolution and victims of Agent Orange/dioxin throughout the district with hundreds of gifts, worth hundreds of millions of VND.
Through mobilizing funds and goodwill, from 2018 to present, the Association of People with Disabilities, Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims and District Social Protection have given gifts, cash, breeding cows, medical examination and treatment to Agent Orange victims and families of Agent Orange victims in especially difficult circumstances with a total value of more than 3 billion VND.
Also from the mobilized fund, the association presented 25 wheelchairs, 21 rocking chairs, bicycles, and prosthetic limbs to 5 Agent Orange victims; gave short-term scholarships to 2 Agent Orange victims worth 4 million VND/2 victims. Repaired and upgraded the house for 1 Agent Orange victim in Block 6, Khe Sanh town worth 55 million VND.
Supported house repairs, roofing, barn covers, and donated essential household items to 10 households in Ba Tang and A Doi communes. Built a house of gratitude for Agent Orange victims in particularly difficult circumstances in Khe Da hamlet, Lao Bao town. Provided free medical examinations and medicine to 55 female Agent Orange victims in Lia, Tan Thanh, Tan Long communes, and Lao Bao town...
In addition, the confirmation and settlement of preferential treatment for resistance fighters exposed to toxic chemicals and victims of Agent Orange/dioxin according to current policies have been implemented by Huong Hoa district in a timely, complete and appropriate manner, without leaving any backlog of records. With the above practical actions, the material and spiritual life of victims of Agent Orange/dioxin in the locality has been improved, no one is left behind.
