Buon Don District: Many spontaneous landfills on provincial roads

Currently, on provincial roads passing through Buon Don district, it is not difficult to see spontaneous landfills, affecting life.

On Provincial Road 5, from 4 Knia hamlets (Knia 1, Knia 2, Knia 3, Knia 4) to village 5 and village 7 (Ea Bar commune), there are many spontaneous garbage dumps along the road. Especially in the area of bridge number 2, both sides of the bridge have become spontaneous gathering places with all kinds of waste. Mr. Y Jac Byă (in Knia hamlet 2) living near bridge number 2 said: “This situation has been going on for a long time. Some people lack awareness, just come early in the morning, or when going to the fields, and conveniently throw garbage bags here. Not only household waste, sometimes there are also animal carcasses, causing an unpleasant stench. Many times I have to buy oil to burn.”

Not only the area of bridge number 2, on the same Provincial Road 5, the section passing through the beginning of village 5 and village 7 is also "suffering" from the problem of mindless littering. Every quarter, the union members, youth of Ea Bar commune, the local people here, together with Hoang Phuong Nam Environmental Company Limited - the waste collection unit in Buon Don district, come out to clean up, but after only a few weeks, the waste is... the same as before.

The Ko Dung B village self-management board, Ea Nuol commune (Buon Don district) launched a campaign to handle spontaneous waste on Provincial Road 1.

On Provincial Road 1, through Ko Dung B village (Ea Nuol commune), the situation of "indiscriminate" littering is also similar. Although the road has been invested in upgrading to be spacious and clean, many people still conveniently throw trash on the street, not in the right place. "Every month, the village organizes a cleaning. Trash keeps appearing continuously, we cannot assign people to guard it day and night. Every time we finish cleaning, we see trash again, we are really helpless!", Mr. Y Luong Kbuôr, Head of Ko Dung B village, said in frustration.

Faced with this situation, the People's Committee of Ea Nuol commune has stepped up propaganda to raise awareness among people through the loudspeaker system and village meetings; provided financial support to Ko Dung B village to handle garbage, installed surveillance cameras at hot spots and posted signs prohibiting dumping. However, litterers still seek out places that are out of sight of cameras to commit their inconsiderate acts.

Youth Union members of Ea Bar commune (Buon Don district) and garbage collection units clean up and treat garbage on Provincial Road 5 (first section of village 5).

According to Mr. Hoang Van Nam, Director of Hoang Phuong Nam Environmental Company Limited, in Ea Bar commune, the rate of waste collection to households is about 90%; while in Ea Nuol commune, the collection service is mainly concentrated along Provincial Road 1 and densely populated roads. Collection to households in sparsely populated areas in Ea Nuol commune faces many difficulties because the amount of waste generated is not enough to cover the operating costs of a regular collection route.

The problem of littering on provincial roads in Buon Don district is still essentially a matter of people’s awareness. However, to change habits and completely resolve this issue, local authorities need to step up propaganda to raise awareness among people, while also strictly punishing those who litter in violation of regulations.

On the part of the waste collection unit, it is necessary to consider expanding the waste collection area, posting signs in the waste collection area so that people can dispose of waste properly; at the same time, installing signs prohibiting littering to emphasize the regulation of not littering or littering on provincial roads to maintain public hygiene.
