Duc Tho district achieved many results on the journey of sustainable poverty reduction.

After the Duc Tho District Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term, the locality established steering committees at all levels to focus on implementing the National Target Program (NTP) on sustainable poverty reduction for the 2021-2025 period. Accordingly, the locality focuses on leadership, direction, propaganda, dissemination, dissemination and concretization of policies and resolutions; linking sustainable poverty reduction with socio -economic development programs and programs on building new rural areas and civilized urban areas in the area.

Spacious houses bring new life to the people of Tien Phong fishing village, Quang Vinh commune.

One of the outstanding results in sustainable poverty reduction in the past 5 years in Duc Tho district is the construction of houses for poor households, near-poor households, households affected by natural disasters, and families of meritorious people. In 5 years, the whole district has supported the construction of 824 houses for the beneficiaries with a total amount of nearly 50 billion VND.

The 24 houses of the fishing village of Tien Phong hamlet, Quang Vinh commune are one of the vivid manifestations of joining hands to care for the poor so that no one is left behind. Mr. Nguyen Van Do (Tien Phong hamlet, Quang Vinh commune) shared: "Living in new houses is still like a dream to me. If it were not for the support of all levels, sectors, and benefactors, we do not know when we would have a house to live in. Our lives have been reorganized and stabilized, our children can go to school to have a brighter future."

Many livelihood models have been implemented, creating conditions for poor and near-poor households in Duc Tho to develop the economy and increase income.

In addition to supporting housing construction costs, Duc Tho district also supports many effective livelihood models, helping people increase their income and improve their lives. The family of Ms. Bui Thi Phuong Chi (Hoa Thai village, Hoa Lac commune) is a near-poor household, with children of school age, and their income mainly depends on farming. In 2022, her family was supported with 100 chickens from the chicken farming livelihood model from the "Livelihood diversification and poverty reduction model development project" under the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction. To date, the flock of chickens has grown to 300, helping the family improve their income and escape poverty.

In the past 3 years, the whole district has had over 5,927 poor, near-poor, and recently escaped poverty households receiving preferential loans from the Social Policy Bank (SPB) with a total budget of over 363 billion VND. The "For the Poor" Fund and socialized resources have also supported 395 livelihood models with an amount of 940 million VND to create jobs and increase income. Synchronous solutions have contributed to rapidly reducing the poverty rate of the district from 1,326 households (4.24%) in 2021 to 737 households (2.34%) in 2025.

The lives of people in Duc Tho district are changing day by day.

Mr. Tran Toai Nguyen - Director of the Social Policy Bank of Duc Tho district said: "Through savings and loan groups, in recent years, many poor households and policy beneficiaries in the district have had access to preferential capital to develop production, create jobs, improve living conditions, and escape poverty. Policy capital has truly become a "lever" contributing to promoting economic development associated with hunger eradication, poverty reduction, and new rural construction".

In recent times, Duc Tho district has also paid special attention to social security policies. Accordingly, from 2021 to 2024, more than 1,700 poor and near-poor students have received credit loans. Many organizations and individuals inside and outside the province have also awarded thousands of scholarships to students in difficult circumstances. Currently, 16/16 communes and towns have commune health stations that meet national standards, with 100% of commune health stations having doctors to support medical examination and treatment. The issuance of health insurance cards for poor and near-poor households has been implemented promptly and ensured.

Duc Tho district has also paid special attention to social security policies for poor and near-poor households.

Ms. Doan Thi Kim Cuc - a patient being treated at Duc Tho District General Hospital shared: "With a health insurance card for poor and near-poor households, I am supported with almost all expenses. Thanks to that, I feel secure in my treatment, and my health is also more stable. For poor people like me, health insurance is truly a great support."

Although certain results have been achieved, poverty reduction work in Duc Tho district still faces certain difficulties. The direction and implementation of poverty reduction projects in some localities is slow, lacks synchronization and has not promoted mutual support between programs. The awareness of a number of cadres and people is still limited, and there is still a mindset of waiting and relying on support policies. Many production support models are not suitable for reality; grassroots cadres are unstable and confused in implementing new policies.

The national target program on sustainable poverty reduction plays an important role in the process of building new rural areas in the locality.

Mr. Hoang Xuan Hung - Vice Chairman of Duc Tho District People's Committee said: "In the past 5 years, the movement to implement the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction for the period 2021 - 2025 has spread widely, receiving consensus and positive response from all classes of people. The achieved results are an important driving force for the locality to continue to lead, mobilize and effectively promote all resources, better implement poverty reduction work, towards building an increasingly prosperous and civilized people's life".
