In the spring crop of 2025, the livestock farming area of Binh Quang village, Cam Binh commune ( Ha Tinh city) has 28 households producing 10.6 hectares of ST25 rice.
Of which, 5 hectares have been certified organic by TQC CGLOBAL Testing and Certification Center ( Hanoi ) according to Vietnamese Standard TCVN 11041-2:2017, the remaining 5.6 hectares are being produced in an organic direction.

At this time, the rice is in harvest season but people are "sitting on hot coals" because they have not found a way to sell their products. Meanwhile, the local government has tried to contact businesses and traders to buy rice but only received the same price as rice produced by conventional methods.
Mr. Tran Huu Khai - a resident of Binh Quang village, Cam Binh commune (Ha Tinh city) said: "Last year, when we got the organic rice certification, the enterprise bought fresh rice for us at 12,000 VND/kg. Following the local government's encouragement, this year, my family continues to produce 4 sao of organic rice. The entire production area applies machine-transplanted tray seedlings and uses the egg-milk spraying method during the care process. Therefore, the cost is higher than other conventional rice production such as Khang Dan. When it was time to harvest, we contacted the enterprise we had previously cooperated with, but they refused to buy at the price promised before the crop. When we contacted some traders, they only bought at 8,000 VND/kg (rice that had been dried in the sun - PV). If organically produced rice is sold at the price of commercial rice, we will suffer heavy losses."

Similarly, Mr. Tran Huu Toan's family (Binh Quang village, Cam Binh commune) is also worried because 4.5 sao of organic rice harvested was forced to lower the price by traders. "Before the harvest, people contacted the purchasing unit last year, Hoa Lac IEC Joint Stock Company in Thach Ha. Initially, they replied that they would quote the price 1 day later, but now when we call, they do not answer anymore. Previously, at the beginning of the production season, this company also came to work and promised to purchase, we also bought the trays and transplanters from this company's employees. But when it came time to purchase the products, the business "ran away", and other traders quoted too low a price, so I brought the rice home to dry and store" - Mr. Tran Huu Toan was upset.
Being forced to pay lower prices, currently, 28 households producing organic rice in Binh Quang village, Cam Binh commune are harvesting rice and bringing it home to dry and store. However, this is not the optimal solution because many costs: seedlings, fertilizers, harvesters, tillers... are waiting to be paid. Moreover, there are families producing large areas, harvesting tons of rice but do not know where to store it when the rainy and stormy season is approaching.

Mr. Nguyen Ky Viet - Head of Binh Quang village, Cam Binh commune said: "Before the production season, the enterprise worked with the people. However, there was no contract, so now they do not buy for us, so we have to accept it. Some other traders initially offered 9,700 VND/kg for sun-dried rice, then forced it down to 9,000 VND/kg and now they only buy for 8,000 VND/kg. Organic rice must be priced at at least 12,000 VND/kg for us to make a profit. At this rate, in the next production season, people will no longer be interested in organic rice."
It is known that in 2024, the organic rice production area of Binh Quang village, Cam Binh commune was granted an organic rice product certificate, becoming the first locality in the province to be granted this certificate. In 2025, Cam Binh commune continued to maintain the organic rice production area of Binh Quang village, Cam Binh commune, but the previously associated enterprise did not operate effectively, and abandoned the association, causing people to fall into the current "half-crying, half-laughing" situation.

“Every year, the locality cooperates with enterprises from production to consumption. This year, people still buy rice seedlings from a company employee. At first, this employee promised to buy rice for the people, but there was no signed contract, so now they "reneged". The commune has also actively connected with other traders in the area, but has not yet reached a reasonable price. Currently, we are mobilizing people to harvest and dry them. In the future, we hope that authorities at all levels will support farmers in finding consumption channels. At this rate, it will be very difficult for the locality to maintain the organic rice production area in Binh Quang village,” emphasized Mr. Nguyen Minh Duyet, Vice Chairman of Cam Binh Commune People's Committee.
To obtain organic certification, local authorities and farmers have had to work very hard in the fields. At least, the people of Binh Quang village, Cam Binh commune have gone through 6 production seasons according to organic processes. People have changed their thinking and farming practices, but currently the rice produced does not have a sustainable consumption channel. Without links with businesses, it is very difficult to continue maintaining the organic rice production area in Binh Quang village. The story in Binh Quang village, Cam Binh commune is also a lesson for localities implementing organic rice production to learn from, from the beginning there must be links with businesses by minutes to maintain sustainable production.
