With an investment capital of more than 1,000 billion VND, Terminal No. 3 of Laos - Vietnam International Port was put into operation and commercial exploitation from April 28, 2025. The project has a length of 225m, the ability to receive general cargo ships with a capacity of up to 45,000 DWT, and an operating capacity of up to 2.15 million tons of goods/year.

Mr. Pham Quoc Luong - Deputy Director of Lao - Viet International Port Joint Stock Company said: "Instead of having to wait for ships to dock at berths 1 and 2 as before, since berth 3 came into operation, it has created many conveniences in arranging ship schedules at the berths. Thereby, it has increased business efficiency and reduced costs for customers. In the past month alone, berth 3 has received more than 10 ships from 5,000 to 30,000 tons. The main items are transit goods from Laos; iron ore, potassium and coal for thermal power plants...".


Regularly bringing ships to Vung Ang port to load and unload goods, Mr. B. Bacalanmo - Captain of the ship RHL Monica (Liberian nationality) with a capacity of 40,000 DWT said: "Previously, the waiting time to schedule the ship was quite long because there were only 2 berths, so it cost a lot, but now everything is easy, convenient, saving logistics costs, transportation costs... Loading and unloading activities are quick, safe, creating trust for large shipping lines every time they dock to load goods...".
With the addition of berth No. 3, the total operating capacity of Lao-Viet International Port Joint Stock Company is expected to increase from 4.5 million tons/year to 6 million tons/year. Thereby, creating a significant advantage in customer service capacity in terms of both scale and network coverage in Ha Tinh and neighboring provinces.


Mr. BunMy Malavong - Deputy General Director of Lao - Asia Telecommunication Company, Deputy Director of Lao - Viet International Port Joint Stock Company shared: “Berth 3, along with berths 1 and 2, operate seamlessly, contributing to ensuring infrastructure for the socio-economic development of the region, of Vietnam and Laos, meeting the increasing demand for goods circulation. At the same time, increasing the attractiveness index in attracting investment into the region and creating a premise for increasingly better service in import and export, transit goods transportation, trade, cooperation with Laos and the Northeast region of Thailand…”.
With a target of 5.5 - 5.7 million tons of cargo passing through the port in 2025, Lao - Viet International Port Joint Stock Company has proactively developed production and business plans since it had more "strength" from wharf No. 3. In addition to increasing competitiveness by putting wharf No. 3 into operation at Vung Ang port, in 2025, Lao - Viet International Port Joint Stock Company also upgraded the wharf and added equipment and human resources to improve the quality of receiving ships and loading and unloading at 3 wharfs.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - Director of Lao - Viet International Port Joint Stock Company said: "The operation of Terminal No. 3 has increased the company's business performance, thereby increasing the volume of goods passing through Vung Ang port by an estimated 10% over the same period.
In the coming time, in the context of the general difficulties of the world economy , which will more or less affect the production and business activities of the company, but with the great efforts and determination of all employees in the unit, we will focus on developing logistics services on the basis of the existing platform, improving the quality of service provision: loading and unloading, warehousing, transportation to meet the maximum needs of customers..., contributing to increasing revenue from logistics services annually by 10 - 15%; improving the quality of digital transformation in all areas of production and business activities of the company. Focusing all resources to determine that by 2030, the volume of goods passing through the port will reach over 7.5 million tons, of which transit goods from Laos will account for over 50%...".
The operation of Terminal No. 3 not only marks a new development step of Lao - Viet International Port Joint Stock Company but also demonstrates the in-depth, practical and effective implementation of the commitments between the Governments of Vietnam and Laos on investment cooperation in developing Terminals No. 1, 2 and 3, Vung Ang Port, helping Laos open up to international integration, facilitate the import and export of goods by sea, and highlight the connection and economic cooperation between Vietnam and Laos...
