U Minh district strives to exceed socio-economic targets

In 2024, the total aquaculture and fisheries output of U Minh district will reach 75,357 tons.

Mr. Huynh Minh Nguyen - Chairman of the People's Committee of U Minh district said: "In 2024, the Party Committee, army and people in the district strived to overcome difficulties and achieved important results in the socio-economic development plan. In particular, implementing the targets of Resolution 06 of the District Party Committee, 15/15 targets were achieved and exceeded the plan; implementing the targets of Resolution 12 of the District People's Council, 17/17 targets were achieved and exceeded the plan; implementing the targets according to Decision No. 5212 of the District People's Committee, 29/29 targets were achieved and exceeded the plan.

In addition, the District People's Committee issued Plan 51, in which 69 key tasks were assigned to agencies, departments and branches for implementation. As a result, 53/69 tasks were completed, reaching 77%; 16 tasks are still being implemented. It is estimated that by December 31, 69/69 tasks will be completed, reaching 100%."

In addition, U Minh district collected 61,062 billion VND in budget revenue, reaching 101.8% compared to the Resolution, up 8.44% over the same period; total aquaculture and aquatic exploitation output was 75,357 tons, reaching 103.51% of the plan, estimated by December 31, the output reached 76,097 tons, reaching 104.53% of the plan.

Up to now, the district has 5 OCOP products, including 4 3-star products (Huong Tram honey, 5 Quoc honey, Huong Tram U Minh tourist destination, U Minh snakehead fish sauce); 01 4-star product (sanh orange).

The district currently has 19 cooperatives and 94 cooperative groups. In general, cooperatives and cooperative groups are gradually being consolidated and improving the quality of their operations, contributing to boosting production and creating jobs for rural workers.

In the district, there are currently 4/7 communes meeting advanced NTM standards, accounting for 57.14% (Khanh An, Khanh Hoa, Khanh Tien, Khanh Hoi communes). Khanh Hoi commune alone is recognized as a type V urban area; U Minh town basically meets 43/52 civilized urban criteria; site clearance work is focused on and directed to basically meet the requirements and tasks set out, especially for key projects.

Farmers in U Minh district actively develop Tet crops (the model of growing Chinese cabbage of Ms. Dang Thi Ven, Hamlet 13, Khanh Thuan Commune).

In particular, the work of caring for and supporting people with meritorious services, policy families, social protection beneficiaries, poor and near-poor households, families in difficult circumstances; gratitude; temporary and dilapidated houses continues to be well implemented...

According to Mr. Huynh Minh Nguyen, besides the achieved results, the district still has limitations and difficulties such as: complicated weather conditions, climate change has affected people's lives and production activities; fluctuating market prices leading to high prices of raw materials and input materials at different times and places, affecting production and business activities; exploitation and aquaculture.

Investment resources for development are still limited and have not met requirements; the economic and social infrastructure system is not yet synchronized; the district's potential and advantages have not been fully exploited; the ability to attract investment has not changed significantly...

Exploiting the potential and strengths of the district

Based on the results achieved in 2024, based on the Resolution of the District Party Committee. In addition, U Minh district continues to implement the provincial agricultural restructuring project and the district's restructuring plan; at the same time, direct specialized sectors to develop and implement the OCOP Program plan; focus capital sources to invest in developing effective production models associated with the district's key strengths (bananas, wood, freshwater fish and rice, etc.).

Diversify aquaculture, expand improved extensive shrimp farming area according to planning, strengthen management of seed and material quality.

Speed ​​up the construction progress of transitional projects in 2024 and urgently complete documents and procedures to implement key basic construction projects in 2025, and effectively carry out the settlement of completed projects.

Strongly develop eco-tourism and community tourism models, have policies to attract investment in building tourist areas and entertainment areas, diversify types and products serving tourism.

Along with that, U Minh district speeds up the construction of schools meeting national standards; continues to implement the poverty reduction and job creation program, has specific solutions to support poverty reduction; strives to reduce the poverty rate by at least 1%; builds and repairs temporary and dilapidated houses, ensuring quality, uniformity, efficiency and timeliness.

Continue to implement the movement "All people unite to build a cultural life" associated with "building new rural areas and civilized urban areas", striving to recognize 91.25% of cultural families by the end of 2025, and recognize 60 new hamlets and quarters meeting cultural standards.

Do a good job of Party building and government building; inspect, prevent and combat corruption; resolve citizens' requests and complaints.

Improve the effectiveness of judicial reform; administrative reform is promoted, meeting the requirements of building a democratic, professional, modern, effective and efficient administration; strengthen national defense and security to firmly protect the Fatherland.

The main targets for 2025 are: average income per capita in U Minh district is 68 million VND; total investment capital for social development is about 3,530 billion VND; budget revenue is 64 billion VND; budget expenditure is 576 billion VND; aquatic product output is 75,800 tons; poor households are reduced by at least 1%; people participating in health insurance is 95% or more; compulsory social insurance is 98%; voluntary social insurance is 8.5%; unemployment insurance is 93.5%. At the same time, completing the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in the district according to plan.
