Prolonged heat affects living habits, potentially causing many health risks. Many people stay in air-conditioned rooms all day, adjusting the room temperature low, sometimes below 20 degrees Celsius. When going outside, the temperature is 35-36 degrees, causing blood vessels to dilate, blood pressure tends to decrease. When re-entering the air-conditioned room, the dilated blood vessels will contract when exposed to cold temperatures, causing blood pressure to suddenly increase.

According to Dr. Tran Quoc Viet, Department of Cardiology, Tam Anh General Hospital, Hanoi , sudden high blood pressure can cause patients to experience dangerous complications such as heart failure and myocardial infarction. If unstable blood pressure persists, it can affect the eyes such as blurred vision, permanent blindness; kidney failure; atherosclerosis, blood clots, and blockages.

Doctors recommend that when a patient has high blood pressure, they should rest and relax in a cool room. If high blood pressure is accompanied by symptoms of vomiting, dizziness, or nosebleeds, the patient should go to a medical facility immediately for examination and timely treatment.

Dr. Viet also advised that patients should maintain the room temperature at around 26-28 degrees Celsius, avoiding large differences between room and outdoor temperatures; should not sit in the air conditioner for too long or lie in the air-conditioned room all day, can lie down during lunch break and sleep at night with suitable temperature. Before leaving the cold room, turn off the air conditioner for 15-30 minutes to give the body time to adapt to the outside temperature, avoiding heat shock. When entering the house, stand at the door for a few minutes to feel the room temperature, then increase or decrease the air conditioner temperature to help the body adapt easily. If going out in hot weather, wear sunscreen and sunglasses to limit the effects of high temperatures.

People with high blood pressure should exercise gently and regularly in the early morning or cool afternoon to help blood vessels stay elastic and keep blood pressure stable. In addition, patients should not wait until they are thirsty to drink, but should drink 2-2.5 liters of water a day. Make a habit of drinking a glass of water after waking up in the morning and before going to bed at night. People with high blood pressure should eat a bland diet, limit salt and salty sauces; should not eat fried foods with a lot of oil, limit red meat and sweets. Instead, they should eat fish - seafood, skinless white meat, eggs, low-fat milk, eat lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, tubers, beans, nuts, etc. People with high blood pressure also need to give up bad habits such as smoking, drinking a lot of alcohol, and limit stimulants such as coffee. In addition, patients need to take blood pressure medication daily, in the correct dosage prescribed by their doctor to maintain stable blood pressure.
