Hamas announced that Ahmed Al-Ghandour, the leader of the group's northern wing, and four other senior commanders were killed in Israeli strikes.
In a statement on November 26, the Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas' armed wing, said Ghandour was a member of the group's military council, and named four other leaders who were killed, including Ayman Siyyam, who according to Israeli media was the commander of missile units.
"By Allah, we will continue their path," a statement from Hamas said, without specifying when the four commanders were killed.
The Israeli military confirmed that it had killed five senior Hamas commanders. They identified Ghandour as a top commander involved in planning and executing the raid on Israeli territory on October 7.

Ghandour, alias Abu Anas, was listed as a "global terrorist" by the US in 2017. The US State Department described him as a former Shura Council member and Hamas political bureau member who had participated in numerous attacks, including a raid on an Israeli military outpost at the Kerem Shalom border crossing, which killed two Israeli soldiers and wounded four.
The attack led to the kidnapping of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, who was held by Hamas for five years before being released in 2011 in exchange for 1,027 Palestinian prisoners.
The announcement from Hamas came on the third day of a four-day ceasefire in Gaza. So far, under the ceasefire agreement, Hamas has returned 26 Israeli hostages in two batches in exchange for 78 Palestinian prisoners.
