Al Jazeera Israel launched a fierce attack across Gaza on May 15, causing a rise in casualties in the strip of land, the U.N.
At least 57 people were killed in airstrikes on the Gaza city of Khan Younis overnight and early on May 15, according to local medical workers. Doctors at the Nasser Medical Complex reported numerous casualties, including children.

" Israeli warplanes directly targeted nine houses in Khan Younis city without any warning," Al Jazeera 's Tareq Abu Azzoum, reporting from Deir al-Balah, said, adding that the houses were "completely wiped out".
Tareq described the situation here as "chaotic", with people fleeing. "The Israeli army targeted civilians while they were sleeping, carrying out 13 airstrikes on the Jabalia refugee camp and surrounding areas," the reporter added.
Civil defense teams are working to rescue people trapped under the rubble.
According to reporter Tareq, the airstrikes show "a pattern of attacks not aimed at military targets but aimed at systematically destroying Gaza's social structure".
