Cao Cao (155 - 220) was one of the most influential figures in Chinese history during the late Eastern Han Dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period. He laid a solid foundation for his son Cao Pi to build the Cao Wei Dynasty. Being a resourceful, suspicious and cunning person, Cao Cao was very skillful in dividing and separating his opponents. Thanks to that, Cao Cao benefited greatly.
Among these, Cao Cao is widely known for breaking up the relationship between Liu Bei and Lu Bu. Specifically, after Liu Bei took over Xu Province and took over the position of Xu Province Governor in place of Tao Qian, in 195, Lu Bu was defeated by Cao Cao at Yan Province. Accordingly, Lu Bu sought refuge with Liu Bei. While many people advised Liu Bei not to help Lu Bu because he was fickle, the future emperor of Shu Han still decided to help. Liu Bei decided to help Lu Bu because this fierce general had previously attacked Cao Cao's Duyen Chau, giving Xu Chau time to be at peace and consolidate its forces.
Liu Bei decided to station Lu Bu at Xiaopei, a district in Yuzhou but under the control of Xuzhou. Faced with that situation, Cao Cao realized that if Lu Bu and Liu Bei formed an alliance, it would be a great disadvantage for him in his quest to rule the world. Therefore, Cao Cao sought to separate the relationship between Lu Bu and Liu Bei. Cao Cao, in the name of Emperor Xian of Han, gave Liu Bei a title. Lu Bu thought that Liu Bei was cooperating with Cao Cao, so he was afraid that these two concubines would find a way to deal with him in the future.
Cao Cao appointed Liu Bei in the name of Emperor Xian of Han. Lu Bu thought that Liu Bei was cooperating with Cao Cao and was afraid that these two forces would find a way to deal with him in the future.
