The construction unit has been piling and embanking the foundation of the walking path along the Huong River from Toa Kham boat wharf to the foot of Dap Da bridge.

Race against time

We were present at the construction site of the walkway along the Perfume River from Toa Kham Wharf to the foot of Dap Da Bridge on a day in mid-April. At this time, the construction unit was driving piles to construct the foundation. Cranes were operating continuously to lift iron piles, concrete piles combined with pile drivers to drive them down along the riverbank, creating the foundation for the project.

Mr. Nguyen Cong, a worker at the construction site, said: The construction units and workers are trying their best to carry out the most basic stages in accordance with the project design.

According to observations, as the piles are driven, the construction unit creates the ground. Up to this point, the pile driving and ground creation has been carried out about 20 to 30m along the bank of the Huong River. When seeing the construction unit deploying the pile driving, many curious locals and tourists stood watching.

Mr. Duong Quang Hien, Director of the Green Park Center of Thuan Hoa District ( Hue City) - the project investor informed: This is a walking and cycling route combined with a 460m long, 6m wide road, combined with water supply, drainage, and lighting. The total investment of the project is more than 35 billion VND; the implementation time is 3 years.

The completed route will connect with the walking route along the Nhu Y River, from Dap Da to Van Duong Bridge (Hue City) with a length of more than 1.6km, 6m wide, with a total cost of more than 267 billion VND.

Through our research, we learned that this route is basically completed, with only a few small items remaining under construction before it can be put into use. The road surface along the route has been paved, but many sections need to be further concreted to widen it so that people and tourists can walk more conveniently.

Currently, in many sections of the route, construction units are spreading tarps to pour concrete to widen the walkway. Sand trucks and concrete mixers have also been mobilized to carry out the work more quickly. In addition, construction units are also erecting railings in sections that do not have railings.

Up the walking route along the Huong River (south) from Da Vien Bridge to Huyen Tran Cong Chua Street, in Phuong Duc Ward, machinery and vehicles were also gathered, construction units focused on human resources to dredge mud and soil, drive piles, and place iron baskets to create the foundation.

Mr. Bach Vinh, Commander of the construction unit of Hue Urban Environment and Construction Joint Stock Company said: Taking advantage of the clear weather, the unit has increased manpower and machinery to ensure the progress of the project.

Interconnection

The walking route along the Huong River from Da Vien Bridge to Huyen Tran Cong Chua Street has a total length of nearly 2km, starting at the walking street of Bui Thi Xuan Park and ending at the intersection of Bui Thi Xuan and Huyen Tran Cong Chua Streets. This project is divided into 2 sections. Section 1, the route along the Huong River, is about 1,863m long, with a roadbed width of 10.5m; of which, the pedestrian path is 3.0m wide (on the residential side); the median strip is 2m wide; the bicycle path is 3.5m wide; the sidewalk on the river bank is 2m wide, and grass will be planted on the sidewalk to create green spots.

Section 2, the road connecting to Bui Thi Xuan Street (perpendicular to Huong River), is about 74.5m long; the roadbed is 12m wide; of which, the road surface is 6m wide; the sidewalks on each side are 3m wide and will be planted with trees.

“We are speeding up the progress and striving to complete the project by October 2025,” said Mr. Hoang Thien, Director of the Project Management Board for Investment and Construction in Thuan Hoa District - the project investor.

Some opinions say that the route is blocked by some households. However, when we met directly with Mr. Le Van Duy, owner of the Song Huong restaurant (address 3/238 Bui Thi Xuan, Phuong Duc ward), he confirmed: "The walking path along the Huong river bank, close to the foot of Nguyen Hoang bridge, in front of my restaurant, has completed the site clearance and construction and has not affected the land. However, my family was affected by nearly 300 square meters of land for the State to implement another project. My family always complies with the State's policies. Currently, we are carrying out the necessary procedures to hand over the site to the construction units."

Mr. Bui Ngoc Chanh, Deputy Director in charge of the Land Fund Development Center of Thuan Hoa District, informed: The route along the Huong River (south) from Da Vien Bridge to Huyen Tran Cong Chua Street has 121 affected households. For the 600m section from Nguyen Hoang Bridge to Lon Bridge, the site clearance has been completed and handed over to the investor on February 28, 2025. Some existing problems and difficulties in site clearance for the remaining sections have also been discussed by the departments and offices of Thuan Hoa District and agreed on an implementation plan to ensure the proposed progress.

Thus, up to this point, the above-mentioned walking route along the Perfume River has basically no more problems or obstacles in construction and site clearance. It is expected that the route will be completed on schedule in October this year, promising to create continuous connections and add highlights to the river banks, becoming an ideal check-in point for domestic and foreign tourists when coming to Hue.
